HID P&P Kit Issue

Hey Guys,

I hope someone can help me with my issue and get me on my way. I looked at other posts, didn't really see a problem like mine. I bought a P&P HID kit off Ebay a while back. I had it installed straight, not knowing nothing about the DRL's and wiring harness etc.

What happened was, the HID's would come on, but the service light would come on as well, and sometimes the right bulb would come on, and sometimes it wouldn't. When the headlight system was on, the highbeam light was on (is this always going to be the case, because it runs off highbeam voltage?). Could this be a HID kit wiring issue?

When the car headlight sytem was off, the DRL light would flicker back and forth with the highbeam light on the dash, and the HID's would flicker as if the system was looking for DRL's, then eventually the service light would come on.

Eventually my fuses inside for left and right headlights blew, so I went back to my stock stuff.

After researching what I understand now is that I need to now only disable the DRL's but I will always need a wiring harness to fix all the issues of flickering and the fuses blowing?

Also, if the power light on the ballast comes on, how would I know if it has a problem or not?

If someone has any info or could help it would be greatly appreciated, I just want to set this up properly once and set up projectors to make it look sweet.

Thanks.

2005 Chev. Cav. Coupe.

HIDs are not made to be DRLs. From what I hear you can cause some major problems by doing this. Disable them and see if it fixes the problem. I would do it asap or remove the HIDs.

did you do the drl disable? if not then do that, and if you did its the wire before the harness and not after, check this and it should solve the problem of both issues I think

No I didnt disable the DRL's, I will do so.

Do I also need to purchase and use a wire harness on my kit? Is that why the headlight fuses in the car fuse panel blew?

Carbon Cavi & Dave are both right. If you still have your DRL's hooked up DISABLE them now! Your DRL's basically run your high beams at a very low wattage. Im not sure at what watts they run but your HID kit draws 35watts of power. If you under power them you will blow out your ballasts. If your power light on your ballasts are on theres a good chance they werent harmed. As far as your service light being on, do the DRL mod and that should take care of it. And for the fuses blowing, when you do the mod make sure you have the right wire and that all the other wires are still connected.

Hey Cartman05

What about the issue of the headlights coming on, and one not coming on, and took a few tries of going off and on before both would come on. Right now its freezing in Toronto, no time to play with the Car, but I will follow up on all this soon.

Thank you for all your help.
