ok im not sure this is the correct forum, but here we go anyways
i do a lot of camping and such, i never find the j body has enough trunk space for gear and the like, and i have always been in a debate over wanting to buy a suv/truck for more cargo space. well i think i may have found the solution.
my idea is to put a cargo rack on the back of my cavy, similar to what they do with jeeps. i found a rack on quadratec. com

so heres the million dollar question, can you guys forsee any complications while using this rack. (aside from the fact that it would look hilarious) the rack attaches to any 2 inch reciver hitch so i dont think i will have any problems with mounting. so whadda yall think?
Seems plausible, except that I see bad things happening with any sort of serious weight loaded that far behind the rear wheels. I know what my Cavy does with a couple hundred pounds in the trunk. For it to be even farther back -- well... it would be interesting.

see thats kinda makin me wonder, but some people are towing trailers for autox uses, and this weight is substantialy less than that, i think. i saw a post by iamrascal and he claimed to have towed 600 or so pounds in a trailer. does that make a difference? because its on a trailer?
Yes it does, because trailers have another axle and wheels, whereas this does not.

Yes, because of tongue weight. That weight is anywhere from 10% to 25% of total trailer load, depending on how the load is distributed.
put air ride on, than you can raise it back up to make up for any extra weight.
...
well that certainly throws a wrench in things. do you guys have any other ideas to increase cargo room? the gear i plan to carry isnt heavy, its just bulky. and the worst part is i cant use a trailer as i have nowhere to store the trailer when not in use.
also a roof top carrier was an idea but that would seriously kill the gas mileage at highway speeds, and im afraid of hurting my sunroof.
so any ideas? i was really hopin this would have worked.
roof rack would disipate the weight evenly over the car and if done right will not do nothing to the sunroof my cuz has a bike rack on his with a aftermarket sroof no probs. the hitch idea like they said up the weight will be off the rear then u have drag down with gas there and betting up ur suspension. ur ground cleance gets worse and well looks whose then the roof one. hears a idea if u have a garge all u need is 8ft high min roof souldnt be hard and about a foot extra room up front and a spot 5-5.5 ft wide left to right cause pepboys and harbor frieght(if appy 2 ur loc) have folding cargo trailers for like 300 bucks and they stand 6-8 feet up right (depending on model)and 1 foot in deepth and about 5-5.5 ft wheel base i got one in my garage and no prob parking a car inthere(gota one car size) so its already small. u should check this idea out.
