hey guys im going to paint my car blue-pink marblized with a black base. just wondering if anyone has this done? and for paint experts whats the best looking thing to use to marblize it? i know about saran wrap but i have yet to see bubble wrap or anything else that is sometimes used. any help with pics or suggestions would be great! thanks.

well as far as effect goes, depending on what you use, depends on the overall effect that turns out in the end. If you want it to look like marble, best bet is to stick with the traditional ways of marblizing the paint. If you're looking for something different, start messing around with different things on a test panel to see what look you like. If the bubblewrap looks good... go for that... some try certain types of sponges (dry and ones that don't flake off of course), just start messing around and see what you like.

never even thought about sponges that sounds like fun. how far away from the panel to lay the marble on? i heard like 8-12 inches?

to marblize paint u can either get the real marblizing paint or u can go old school and use seranwrap on wet paint . ive never heard of useing a sponge to do marble

As far as laying the marble-izer goes, I've never used the stuff. If you're buying marblizer, there should either be directions on the can, or a tech sheet, or you could also ask for a tech sheet if it's not included.

I've messed around some the "old school" way, and the only thing that makes it difficult is that the paint dries too fast to do large sections at a time... so you basically have to do it in sections... which is just more of a pita than anything else.

Doing it the old school way you lay the lighter color on first, let dry totally, then lay a wet coat (but not too wet) of the darker color and QUICKLY apply the saran wrap/bubble wrap/sponge/etc and lift off. If you're using saran wrap for an example, the wet paint clings to the saran wrap, basically "removing" the darker color from the lighter color... and letting the lighter color show through... hard to explain in words really. I've done it before, but it's hard to explain everything in type.

If you're doing it yourself, just get extra paint and mess around with it for a while until you get an effect you like.... and just make sure you remember what you did to get that effect. If a shop is doing it, see if you can sit in for a bit and mess around with different ideas and such.

Only thing with this type of painting... when it's done right it looks awesome, but it's difficult to produce the same effect every time... especially when using something like saran wrap because you can't get it to lay the exact same way every time.

I WANNA SEE PICS !!!! PLEASE!!!! I'm doing a 2 tone paint with my stock manta green and would like to do that with the black I'm doing on the roof ... or possibly something different still lots of thought to go into finishing my car..

ill keep you guys updated it will be prolly at least 2-3 weeks but im going to take my time and make it perfect. yeah lance im doing the green one since that bastard screwed my car over.

both HOK and PPG makes the marbleizer, i have always done it with sran wrap, you can also add pearl in the marbleizer as well, this is the order, sealer, base, marbleizer, clear
the last one i did was black base with purple pearl in marbleizer and no pics allot were taken when i left that shop
try test panles as soon as the marbleizer is wet start appling sran wrap sponge bubble wrap in a pattern that ya like

u bastard, im in the process of marbleing my car the EXACT same color.

we tested using bubble wrap but it looks like a honey comb and would onlly look good if you match each section perfect IMO.

also, not sure if you looked around yet but you do realise what kinda price tag you're looking at just for supplies, right?

also, dont cheap out on your base coat. ive seen people try and use a cheap black base and it looks like crap. make sure you use ALL HOK materials

marble paint is going to be everywhere this year Personally we used ALsa paint they call it crazer similar effect, there is a FAQ found on their site as well www.alsacorp.com

^^^^only prob with alsa is the cost, lol

granted its amazing paint but when i priced out crystal fx and crazer for the whole car materials alone were $1700 or so

but the paint is so sick looking

ya alsa is definately costly but amazing product, materials on my paint ext/int retailed for around 2200 so it isnt cheap
