ya i was lookin at the idea of making my 04 a convertible but my main question would be how much weight would that drop. im thinkin on doing maybe a manual soft top but since there has to be sum kind of top suport would that put all that weight back on? granted the roof might not weigh that much the windows should.
just buy a used 95-2001 ? used vert .. do a headlight swap on the two cars ... put your 04 on the older car and youll be done faster and easier .. and the car will be safer also
how about get a convertable and do an 03+ front end conversion
the coupes are not built to be structurally sound without the top, it would be a very dangerous car without a ton of bracing work
Yes any weight you lose by cutting the top off would be more than made up for with bracing or else the car would eventually fall apart without bracing. If you look at the specs of just about all cars that come as coupe or convertible, the convertibles are always at least a few hundred pounds heavier.
o ok thanx for the info on that. ya my gut feeling told me that the weight would be heavier. but i didnt know anything bout the structual integrity. na i didnt want an older model j. i luv my ecotec wouldnt trade it for nothin. but it would look kinda kool though in the newer models
well, you could always try and find an older cavy as stated above and use your 04 for the front end parts. then you could swap the motors as well. I know motor swapping may sound like too much with all the wiring and what not that goes along with it on top of front end work, but you would save a ton in time, money, hard work, custom fabrication, frustration, alcohol consumption, and hospital visits than going the other route.
