I was on the DIY network and looked at the flip flop trunklid conversion. I thought everything was fine and dandy, but I went and looked at the sunfire trunk lid and the hinges and set into the trunk lid... Is it still possible to do this conversion?
My car is a 2000.
there are a bunch of ppl on here that have done the flip flop trunk, just search and you should find sumthing ( ressurected j) did one on his old sedan.
I do believe there was problem, something about the trunk not sealing correctly and letting water in.....the more I think about it the more I think it only effected the 2nd gen cavaliers.
If its anything like my 02 cavalier that I did that to then the swing arms that attach to the back deck are gonna need to be lowerd since the arm where it attaches to the trunk is inside the trunk. All i did was i got some metal plumbing pipe and cut it to the exact size of the arm and hinge together since you need to attach the arm on the outside of the inside of the trunk lid. It's not a bad thing to do but if you dont get it tight and have a system that thing is gonna rattle worse then ever.

Don't think I'm really following you here... I have a -03 cav, and I know the arms of my trunk go inside under the frame of it. How do you go about flipping this flop out?

you unbolt the lid. and you put the arms on the outside of the slot its supposed to be in. then use your hinges from the hardware store to secure it. you then make a 1" spacer (thickness of the arm) and unbolt the arms from the rear deck (body of the car) and insert the spacers to space the arms down 1" there IS a writeup on this if you guys would just search.
I just searched a second ago and a bunch of stuff came up, but last night it said no results...
dont know what to telll you. but i know that there is a DAMN good writeup somewhere
