Hey,
I got a new trunk to replace my broke one and I need to swap the locks out.
Now I searched and read something about a C clip and I can not find a C clip for the life of me.
I do know it's like riveted on too but I don't want to have to drill them unless I really have to.
Am I just missing something or did they change between years or what?
If you needed to know, it's an 01 Sunfire Coupe.
Thanks for the help.

K, I was searching some more and found a pic of the clip (i guess)...
And...ya...um...I don't have that. Looks like I might be drilling some rivets unless i'm missing something.

lol
I could only get a good pic of the outside of the lock. I think the digital camera is in the room with the sleeping mom so I had to use my phone.
I can get pics of the inside tomorrow if you need (which I suppose u do)

uh, is that even factory? I just swapped my lid out and that looks nothing like what I have on either lid.

I assume so, lol.
It's on both my 01 Sunfire lid and my 04 Sunfire lid. I'm thinking it must be a sunfire thing because I think cavys have that clip.
Here's some pics of the inside.
I can't think of/see any way to get it out other than drilling the rivets.

Its a Sunfire thing.. Think, the filler panel has to sit over it, so its raised up, so the lock cant be recessed into the trunk lid any to hold it in place for you to put a clip in. Odds are its a similar lock style to another vehicle that they used during the build, and just stuck with it. and that the easiest was to MAKE SURE the lock riveted on to make sure it was in the exact location it needed to be for each sunfire. Cuz who wants to buy a car where there trunk lock is at a 45degree angle.. the rivets i think are a sort of line up as the cavalier trunks have 3 slots that have to line up. thats my theory tho lol
Now to remove, yeah you will have to drill out the rivets.. and it looks like the 3 hooks underneath to hold it in are probably part of the lock, so you'll need some pliers or flathead and carefully pry them back up enough to go through the hole in the trunk. You can either re-rivet it using a slightly larger rivet, or since i don't know how much room behind the filler panel you have, you can go to hardware store and try to get a bolt with a thin enough head that it doesn't make the filler panel raised in that spot, then just bend the "hooks" back and put a nut on it up to the hooks. Overall looks like it wouldn't be to hard to do. but saying its one thing lol
To make sure u don't drill out the hole to big, take your drill bits and see what one fits in the little circle in the middle of it. Odds are it'll be 1/8" or 9/64" that you'll use.
actually those 3 prongs you see are part of whats called a split rivet. so thats part of the rivet itself. so all he needs to do is drill the rivet out. and use a regular rivet to resecure it.
That makes sense. I forgot the cavaliers just have it "flush" mounted.
Looks like i'll be drillin um.
Now I just have to find some of those split rivets.
