any good way to take it off, or is it actually drilled into the trunk?

To answer your question,it screws on in 5 places. If you have a spoiler and would like to go without, try to find a trunk without a spoiler to save money on paint and labor. You'll also need to pick up a 3rd brake light that goes on top of the deck.

personally I love the look of mine without, it all depends on the rest of the car.

Finding a spoiler-less trunk lid is great advice, however, be advised that it may not be the best idea in the long run. Case in point; I was lucky enough to stumble upon a spoiler-less trunk lid at a local junkyard. I dropped it off at the body shop. Later that same day, the guy from the body shop called me up and said it was all dented up. I hadn't really noticed anything but a few small dents, then again I am not a trained professional. He told me it would be cheaper and easier for him just to weld the holes on my factory trunk lid, that's how badly dented the spoiler-less one was. Just be careful if you do track down a spoiler-less one. Have the body shop check it out before you just hand it over to them to paint and end up with a bill for $600.00 or something.

As far as hooking up the third brake light in the rear deck, it's uber easy and I highly recommend it. Better to have it so you don't get blamed if God forbid you ever get rear ended. If you have a '95-'99 Sunfire the wires for it will already be there under the rear deck. If you have a '00-'05 Sunfire, you will need to move the wires down from the underside of the trunk lid up and under the rear deck. F.Y.I. a third brake light and rear deck from a Cavalier Coupe will fit just fine in any year Sunfire.

Absolutely love your 'fire. Definitely one of my favorites. Nice and clean the way a 'fire should be .

I thought I liked the spoilerless look on mine, until I slapped a spoiler on and made me realize how funny looking the spoilerless look was. Here's a before and afters so you can see for yourself.

IMO I think the spoilerless trunk gives the sunfires what I see as a "scared dog" look, like its rear is hunched down and its hiding its tail under its legs, and I just don't like it much personally.
