Did a search, didn't really turn up anything with fiberglass.
and the links in exterior faq no longer work.
Anyone ever shaved handles with fiberglass?
Right now I just want to do the rears.
I know I know... Welding works best. But I am tring to save some money on this, and am not very good with a welder.
...
You can, but it's about the dumbest thing to do ever. You don't want to cheap out when it comes to things like that. One little hit, fiberglass can come out...
I done alot of fiberglass work and have actually shaved my handles, but I welded in my filler plates. In my opinion filling in your handles with fiberglass it may eventually crack.

More than likely after a couple years pass and it gets cold and hot and cold again, and it'll likely just fall out...
Yup, bad idea. Sheet metal and fiberglass expand at different rates.
yeah we've done it to a Saturn once, and it lasted even threw hitting a metal divider on the high way.... But Saturn's are plastic so you can't weld.
Wasn't sure which is why I asked if anyone's done it.
...
i wouldnt even say a few years. i know a kid who did it, and less than a year later they are seperating from the car REALLY bad. easiest way to ruin a paintjob in a short time. dont do a hack job. do it right.
take it to a place and have them welded it for you. install everything and then just have them weld a plate in.
I did mine about 2 years ago with metal and structural adhesive. I then used a thin coat of fiberglass and lightweight body filler, and have had no problems whatsoever.

I used fusor. I wanna say 147, it's the same stuff i used to mold my rear bumper.
^^^good man!
fusor and 3m panel bond own
i wonder if fusor would work well patching a rust hole. i should be getting the patch panel shortly. and i cant weld. could be my best option next to jb weld
^^not that its the best way to do things, but i know plenty of shops that use fusor/3m panel bond to do stuff liek that. if i remember correctly, that was what it was originally made to do. then the product lines expanded to all different types.product #'s for different needs.
just remember for either of those products u need the applicable applicator gun which isnt cheap
i remember hearing a guy who created his own applicator gun. it was rigged but worked.
ya, using 2 caulk guns. i looked at it, and i think youd spend more time trying to build/rig a gun then the whole job should take start to finish.....but if you can fab one up, please do let us know! id like to see how it goes
ive got a plan of action.
think ive devised a way to do it.. just need a patch panel now. and more cutting disc for my dremel. if this works ill kick my self for waiting so long to repair the rust.
they make an adapter for the panel bond to go into a normal caulking gun.

really?? never heard of that. happen to have a link or pic??

x2 I had to pay 70 for my gun to use it only once >.<
im going to use duramix. ive created the applicator for the duramix stuff but should also work with the fusor and 3m. costed about 10 bucks. ill post the how to in the exterior forum saturday.
^^^that would be extra cool man!!
