i got a small area on the top of my roof that has fine scratches,was wondering would buffing work,since i've never buffed my car before,or is there anything else i could try?

If they're verry light, there's scratch compounds that may help or work.

If they're too deep for that, it needs to be wet sanded and buffed... not something you want to do if you've never done it before. If you hit it too hard with the buffer you can burn your clearcoat, then need to get it repainted.

If your fingernail catches on any of the scratches, neither may work and the only fix may be to have it re-cleared. The rule of thumb for autobody is if your nail catches on a scratch, odds are you'll need to reclear it.

yes they are very light scratches.....any good rubbing compounds out there that you can recommend? thanks a bunch for the input!!

I've read some very good reviews on NuFinish Scratch Doctor. It's at almost every major department store that carries auto stuff.

I have used NuFinish and Eagle One's NanoWax. Both are very good in removing light and I mean light scratches and swirl marks.

Of course if the scratch stays visible than you are doing to have to touch it up, which I won't recommend, or eventually have the area repainted if it is real bad. I had someone back into my front bumper and scuff the side above the fog light, neither one of these compounds works. But I did however have someone go across my spoiler with a key or finger or something and scratch it up and the NanoWax took it right out. So again it will vary.
