Well i ordered a set off ebay, go them in and looked perfectly fine. All but the passenger side inner went in perfectly. The auction stated no broken tabs, well 2 snapped off and upon further examination they were put in place with epoxy or some @!#$. I've had em for some time but haven't had a chance to install them until now. GM no longer lists the part number at the dealership so my only way of getting a new one is through an .org member. The duche on ebay said i'm SOL.... @!#$in @!#$!
So i am gladly willing to pay anyone who has an extra Passenger side inner lamp with NO broken tabs good money. Please let me know. I am trying to fix them with epoxy right now myself, but i have an odd feeling its not going to work they way they broke off.
Are these tabs that you speak of made of plastic? As well as the rest of the tail lamp assembly? If so, why not see if you can bring the part to someone who does plastic welding maybe? just a suggestion, but thats what I would do
You Know How It Is
You got my hopes up seeing a reply, damn it!
I might have gotten my little epoxy jobber to work. BUt i would still like to snag an extra one if anyone has it... thanks.
ebay sucks. i don't see why gm wont sell them i got mine like a month or two from them but they are just sittin around because i don't have a full set
cody, if u have the tabs and some good quality(quality being key word) u can fix it and itll be just as strong. also, try Gorilla Glue, somewht expensive but that @!#$ is tough and i love it. can even use some paint and paint over it afterwards even tho u wont see it. but also, when tightening them down you dont need to put your muscle in it lol
5 minute 2 TON 2-part epoxy. Nuff' said...
AIR RIDE MAFIA (~airbagsource.com~)
Issue resolved....
2 part epoxy, took some framing nails and drilled holes through and out the other side of the tab near the base so when they epoxy cured, the son of a bitch wouldn't be able to twist out on me like it did the first time. They don't move so thats all i care, i'll just have to un install them myself when it comes time for paint.
.... me happy now!
Well, just goes to show you there are some good ebayers out there, i contacted the seller about the issue, and i have a new passenger side toyo lense sitten here in my hands. All tabs this time intact and i inspected them closely. JDM_imports_USA, is a great seller if anyone cares to know.
I think those are the guys trying to sell the toyo cav front clip...
thats awsome. im very surprised since thy came off of ebay. and when exactly ARE you getting it in to paint. im excited to see what she looks like
Same crap happened to me. Damn ebay bitches. I kept trying to epoxy the tab on the back on, but when i came time to install. The epoxy was not able to withstand the torque, so i am missing one tab on my left inner light.
I got one question, what do you mean by you drilled a holes through it. Did you just make area for the epoxy to basically cure inside the tab to make the bond stronger and not just on the surface where it had broke. I don't know, i would like to fix that little problem though.
The taillight doesn't move or anything but it makes me wonder if its not sealed correctly to the trunk. I haven't had any visible water damage, but ya never know over time.
Wojo- Well i wanted it painted this july, i just went out for some price quotes and from last year to now, everything has jumped nearly 1,500 in price which is putting me into a bind finicially. I really don't have 4,500-5,000 to piss away on a paint job right now. I have 1/2 of that since last year i was told 3,500-4,000. I might take out a small personal loan for a year and a half and just get it over with.
Z-dizzle- I took a very small drill bit and drilled through the tab itself out the other side 2 different ways to make an X through the tab. I then cut down some picture hanging screws since i too had the issue of the tab breaking free in the epoxy. With the nails running through them it hold the tab in place so it cannot rotate. It works but i had to widen the holes in the trunk and still be extremly careful while tightening them down. I'll snap some pics for ya in a lil bit, i am going to go through the new one in now.
