I want to clean up my engine bay a lil bit. What would the best method be, Mean Green, Castrol degreaser? Whatever you guys have tried and works the best.

Keep the car running and pop the hood. Spray the hell out of everything (except the alternator) with Simple Green. Give it a few minutes and spray again all over the place, give that a tad and spray it all down really good with a hose. Get a good towel and wipe down everything you can, and call it a day.

I wouldn't keep the car running... most products even say to use on cold engines... but yeah, lift the hood, spray the degreaser, let it do it's thing, spray it down with some water and you're done. You could take some extra precautions covering the alternator, etc. Also, use some armor-all on the hose and plastic pieces... makes it looks like new.

I've used engine cleaner at work on different cars, and there is a good amount of the time where they won't start afterwards. We use some pretty strong @!#$ on them too. I've sprayed the alternator before with no problems, but I've been told it can lead to issues. Also, you are always supposed to cover any cone filters due to sucking in water, lol.

I've never had problems getting my alternator wet, and I have power washed my engine bay at the car wash after soaking it in the green degreaser most of them have. I cover my cone filter, and try to steer clear of the master cylinder reservoirs and the bigass wiring harness junction near the brake booster and the fusebox, and so far, have not had any problems at all except for maybe the wax making my brakes a tad weak for a mile or so. I also try to avoid blasting the exhaust manifold. I doubt it'll crack, it doesn't get as hot as a turbo'd car does, but the possibility is definitely there.
