i recently got a 1999 cavalier but the only thing that i dont like about it is it doesnt have a moonroof.......does anyone have any suggestions on how hard it would be to put a factory roof in this car.........and approx. what do you think that it would cost me ....also does anyone know of any good places that would be able to do it with now leaks???
better to go after market , its less work and cheaper , unless you find 1 that is good , but a new aftermarket will still be cheaper in the long run
but if you wanna cut the roof and weld in a new 1 go for it
Really at this point the cost of putting in a power roof into a 99 j-body would be 1/4 the worth of the car. It's not worth it unless you truly plan to keep this car a very long time. The cheapest quote I got from a reputable company for my 1998 z24 in 2001 was $1100 installed. That was in 2001...nothing gets cheaper over time, so I’d say it's that much or more now 6 years later.
I got cheaper quotes (around $888 and $900+) But I heard ALOT of bad word of mouth about those companies, shoddy workmanship and whatnot. I'd plan at least $1000 minimal for a good roof put in with quality guaranteed work. And really IMHO that’s a lot of money to put into an almost 9 year old car.

Putting a factory sunroof in the car would mean pulling the front and rear glass, and the side panels by the quarter glass.... then grinding off the welds that hold the roof panel in.... then putting in a new factory roof (with sunroof hole in it). You can still order these new (GM part number 22714449 approx $350 at www.gmpartsdirect.com). Much more at a dealer... then you paint it, re-install the glass and hope everything lines up
My roof was replaced when someone jumped on it... I wish I'd gotten the sunroof installed then...

ive heard bad things about aftermarket sunroofs leaking and what not... id really not even bother unless u absolutly have to have one...

i who have nothing but the comfort of my sins...
If someone climbed on your car you should be able to get insurance to cover the costs. Might have to file a police report for vandalism, but it would be a hell of a lot better then paying over 1k for someone elses ass. Then you could probably get the factory sunroof installed, and not have any worrys of leaking.
ive had my aftermarket sunroof in for 3 years... no leaks...

Its not worth going through insurance. PLUS, I always wanted a sunroof. I HAVE to have one, lol. I'm only getting a basic pop-up sunroof. It only costs $350 installed by people who have been in the sunroof industry for over 15 years.
