Polished/painted ECU?
Monday, August 27, 2007 11:25 AM
anyone ever polish or paint their ECU under the hood? mine is showing signs of rust/corrosion and id like to clean it up a bit. im polishing my valve cover and fuel rail, but it seems the ECU would be a tough piece to try and polish

anyone got pics of painted/polished ECU's?

thanks in advance

Listening, I'm in the same boat as joe.

I'd probably start with some dry scotch brite and then work my way up with finer sand paper on the ecu. I didn't have time to really play around with mine b4 i left for college as i tried to strip a whole car with the amount of time i had. My black metal bracket is pretty shotty as well. But i can sand blast that and re paint.

u ho you beat me to it lol. thats what i did joe and it helps clean up the engine bay allot. gets ride of about 3' of 2" thick wiring and the big cpu opening up the back end. its extremly simple to do but has a great effect.

yeah, the stock wiring is long enough to reach to right below your radio so no extention is needed, just unhook it, cut a biger hole in the gromment and feed one then the other thru. i just used zipties to hold the cpu in. will take u less then an hour to do.

thank manta for the sig.

I'd still like to see a polished one. I plan on having quite a bit of bling in my engine bay and i don't have a lot of anything in there right now currently anyways.

It really shouldn't be hard. It's pretty smooth already, just get a polish wheel for a dremel and go to town. IIRC, the Eco ECM's have heat sink fins on them?
I wouldn't bother with the sand paper, just some 000 steel wool to clean it up, then hit it with the compound. I think that would look very nice. A well finished look that would fit with your car perfectly.
