Need input, looking for an exterior change
Tuesday, August 28, 2007 7:20 AM
Just wanted to get some ideas or suggestions from you guys on doing a slight change on the outside of my car.. Ive done some shows this year and im really not enjoying it like I used to.. Ive been told that my car is 'too clean' really to be noticed at shows for awards or whatever.. I know its plain looking and all that, that was my goal.. But id like to start winning some awards again and actually getting something for all the hard work ive put into it lol..

Do you suggest, a roll call, two tone paint job, some kind of paint design?

Here is my car, please give any suggestions..

Thanks.

i say a clean subtle 2 tone or maybe just throw a layer of pearl(red or silver maybe?) over the white. i dont think you need to do anything drastic as your car is mint.......you just need that "finishing touch" to make it jump out. heck, you could prolly get some airbrushing(tasteful) done.

Thanks Joey, yea I agree, I was really leaning towards a pearl paint job anyway.. But I also like the idea of a subtile two tone as well. It does need that 'finishing' look, just not sure which way to go..

Thanks man..

keep the ideas coming

i guess it all comes down to what you have/want to spend on the whole deal. throwing a coat of pearl over your existing white would probably be the most cost effective. that or airbrushing and having the whole car re-cleared.

doing an entire new paint job, especially changing the color(s) will be the most expensive option

edit* another thing that would be pretty cool would be a design in the pearl. say you did red pearl or kandy, you could do a set of flames coming down the hood/sides in the pearl/kandy, or another design if you dont like the whole flame look.

either way, you should bring that bad boy down here to buffalo and let us do it for you

Id say go TRD front.. lil more aggresive and i dont know the word for what im trying to think of, but its a little more shaped, not so smooth all around.. then u can play with the idea of a two tone.. i think with the import fighter kit(front atleast) its hard to have a two tone that looks good that could flow from the bumper.. why.. dunno, it just seems to clean of a bumper for it.. otherwise just do a really sharp paint job, maybe not so white.. or have white with red pearl or flake, something simple but that will really catch attention.

btw if you do ditch the if front lemme know

Thanks for that Kandy Idea about the design on the front Joey, thats not a bad Idea.. Im not into flames, but yea some sort of design would be sweet.. Also, after seeing your paint job I wouldnt mind bringing my car up there to let you guys take care of it for me Ill definately keep that in mind.

Manta, you know I was just in the garage looking at my front bumper thinking to myself that it is too clean of a front to maybe pull off a two-tone paint job.. There aren't really agressive lines in it to carry over to the side of the car.. Thanks for your input.

Also, ill keep you in mind if I change fronts lol

whatever you do dont put flames on the outside or youlle lose at shows.

not trying to bash your car david cause i like it but your paint in general isnt that great, you have some issues around your door handle ares and i think i remrember the wing and bumpers having some issues as well. i think if you just had it redone by a quality shop in white with a heavy pearl to it, it will look allot cleaner, gain you allot of points, shine in the sun big time and yet still retain a clean look. i honestly think two tones are kinda worn out. it seems that everyone on here in the last two years that has painted their car has done some sort of two tone, i originally planned on that but i just got tired of seeing two tone. if you really wanted to be subtle yet showy do some ghost flames or ghost designs in the pearl something that most people might not know but judges would be all over (if they are half way decent).

Yup your right J, the bumpers are taken care of.. Its just the wing area and the bottom of my doors that have the issues now.. Yeah thats the work of a shotty body shop for ya.. Im really leaning towards the pearl alot.. Plus, when the engine is pulled this winter Ill be painting the bay as well.. So that could help me some, also need to get my back seat recovered..

Thanks for the ideas again.

yeah figure out what you want before you yank the engine because painting the engine bay to match really puts you ahead of allot of people. if you want to do that and get serious think about some design work or something that you can implement into the bay so its even better then just a standard paint job. adds that extra bit of deatail. we went to the painter about 4months before we yanked the motor just to go over allot of ideas. he sketched stuff up that we thought about going with before we decided on the flames.

I gotta yank the engine anyway for the machine work to the block.. But I see what your saying.. Ill probably draw some stuff up myself and see what I come up with.. I like the whole car in pearl white, then in the front subtile ghost flames in kandy red and somewhat down the sides..

yeah but doesnt make sence to go to car shows to not win, a clean paintjob is worth allot of points at some shows. at itb last week exterior and paint are worth 40% of yoru score, i think a pearl would make his car stand out allot more.

hmmm, must be nice to know whats being judged and how. we dont get to know jack around here-although i tell myself im going to stare at the judges while they look over my car, but for some reason im never around when they do it. if your going by paint as 40% of scoring, that certainly explains a lot as to why i can never achieve a 1st place.

i dont go to shows to win, i go to show off my car. if i was going to just win trophys and such i wouldnt even bother, my car would need a whole shiit ton of things done before id deem it worthy of a 1st place.

but i can definatly see where you guys are coming from, the entry fee sucks to have to pay and if you dont win anything, you just wasted your money. thats why i prefer to attend more 'cruize-in' and non-judged deals. of the 23 events ive been to this season, only 2 of them were judged.

If you want to go two tone, I say a nice clean line with charcoal metallic on the top, and add some large flake and pearl to the white.

i think if you wanted to go the airbrush look, do a mechanical silver light black and gray on on the bottom of the car, (gears, rivets maybe metal dragon, steel hoses, and computer lookin stuff) you know kind of going from the white to the bit darker mechanical look. it would be clean and have that cool custom paint look. it would look very tasteful if done right on a white car. plus go good with the black rims. or even do just givets on the sides of any body lines, that might look cool. but whatever it is, its still your car

^^^ that just ruins the clean look of the car

heres what you do david...box it up, or put it on a flatbed, point that thing toward 71 south, and make sure it gets down here to FL to my house

but i enjoy the idea of pearl, like the lexus, caddy, toyota color...diamond white pearl or whatever its called. maybe add some ghost to the hood or something to keep it subtle yet you know somethings in/on the hood?
