HEllo.
2004 Sunfire coupe black
I sanded, primed, (colour matched) painted then clear-coated a 12 sq. inch area on my front bumber. (The result of a parking lot hit and run.)
The area is now shinier and blacker than the rest of the paint on the plastic bumper.(As of 4 hours after I painted it. I just did it).
Is there anything I can do now to to make the newly painted area blend in more.
Thanks
Walt
Did you try to wax the rest of the bumper? It may help shine up the paint thats already there. Try not to get it on the newly painted part though.
I would have just painted the whole bumper but that's just me...
Sarcasm aside, you should have painted the whole bumper. Now, you can wet sand and buff the whole bumper in a few days to blend it better or, like steve said, wax the older paint to see if that helps.
Hey guys
Thanks for the advice.
It will take more than waxing the rest of the bumper to do a proper job, but I'll try it.
Is there anything else I can do to to help the paint match up better at this point. I did it 24 hours ago.
Before this I took it into a autobody repair shop. The guy said that he could paint the bumper but after a while it would bubble or crack.
He suggested getting a front bumper from a wrecker and installing it myself. (This is why I decided to do it myself.)
What do you figure a front bumper from a wreck would cost me?
Question: If I get the body shop to paint it for me, How long can I expect the paint to hold up?
Thanks
Walt
You never just paint part of a bumper or body panel... you need to do the whole panel to do it right.
As long as you take it to a reputable shop (MAKE SURE THEY GUARANTEE THEIR WORK!!!) The paint should last a long long time
You can find parts pretty cheap on ebay, but shipping may be a killer... Look on car-part.com and you should find what you're looking for.
