For those who have Toyota Cavalier mirrors
Tuesday, October 09, 2007 4:22 AM
I just bought a set, but totally forgot the fact that they were made for a right hand drive car and not for a left hand drive car. My question is what can be done to fix this or is there not much of a difference. What I mean by this is when you look at the mirror to see what is behind you is there much of a difference from the Chevy to Toyota ones. Hope this made sence if not I will try and explain it better if I can

Thanks

yea because in japan they drive on the right side of the car which means their passenger side mirror is our driver side mirror. it takes some getting use to but i left it the same

I can see fine out of my driver mirror, it's a little different but still can be used just like the US mirrors. The passenger mirror is basically useless for me, I don't know if it is for everyone else but mine is useless. It's really not that much of a problem, you just learn to actually turn your head and look instead of using the mirrors all the time.

isn't the mirror glass replaceable though? could you just swap the mirror glass from a regular mirror to the toyota ones? or is that not possible on cavaliers?

would work, if they weren't shaped different.

i found a mirror replacement kit. where you trace the mirror on it, cut it out and glue it on. its for if your mirrored portion broke apart. i'm gonna cut out the shape and tape it on and see if it helps from sitting in the drivers seat and looks decent. if so, i'll glue it on.

the only difference in the glass is the fact that the side that is magnified is switched. as far as what you can see, i have mine cranked all the way, but i love them. i honestly like them better than the standard mirrors. but like i said, its the design of the mirror for rhd that is what is different. not the mirror glass. try them out. worst come to worst you put those little circle things on there... haha

I didn't realize the difference in geometry until I had them on the car and saw them from outside (before I tried driving with them), and figured that something was different. The driver side is angled more towards the car than the passenger side (opposite to stock).

They are pretty much the most worthless and rice mod I have put on my car. I'd take them off if I didn't like the way they looked, because really they are worthless to use, I've just stopped trying to use them and instead I've developed better neck muscles for checking blind spots lol.

^^^ They're really that bad huh? I also just picked up a set. I never thought about this until reading this post. I don't mean to thread jack but does anyone have instructions for wiring on a car that didn't come from the factory w/ power mirrors? I found a set searching but its for a car that comes pre-wired. Again sorry for the jack.

Well this is kinda a no brainer if you ask me. All you need is power and ground from the car, and run wires from each mirror to the relay and switch. I just made my own harness and just ran wires. No hard at all.

It is ok... At least I didn't say it would be easier to have no power mirrors then to have them. Gives you more room to run wires. Just make sure to put heat shrink wrap on those wires.

Well the mirrors came in yesterday now I just have to have them painted, because they are red. Shipping is a rip off though was over $86 just to come accross the border, but no big deal because it was worth it just to get these mirrors

Damn... That is way to high on that shipping price. I sent a set up to Canada insured out the but for like 40 something I think. I can't remember, but that was in a huge box with a ton of padding all around. I didn't want to take a chance.

Shipping was only $38.44. I am talking about border fees that is what was $86

you gotta get your shippers to ship as gifts. No customs. or repair, repairr works as well.

Well I'm glad you are talking about the shipping as gifts. As I was tryin' to ship mine over it was very very unclear on how to send it as a gift. I talked and talked about it as a gift, but they wanted prices on this and that. So I didn't see a simple check here as a gift or something along those lines. Please PM or lets make a sticky on how to send something like this as a gift or repair like stated above to handle such things like this that come up.

TRD Cav Fire It has to be a gift of $50 or under.

Bill Soper was it shipped UPS? If so they charge a $30 brokerage fee, no matter what the value is.
Their duty and taxes seem to be quite abit higher too. Try to avoid having anything sent UPS.

I'm a little late on this, but thanks for the win!

I send everything USPS across the border, no brokerage fees, and unless UPS changed thier fees, brokerage is determined by the actual broker and can charge up to 60% of the declared value for thier service.
