Anyone that has dont the cavfire conversion ( cav front or fire front) did the Very 2 front fender bolts under the hood (closest to the headlights) line up with the existing holes. right now im attending wyotech and were doing frame rack stuff. and me and seth (wizzkiddrummer) were looking at the specs for a j-body and it says that from the center line of the vehicle to the center of that front fender bolt the sunfire is wider. by 17 mm we measured my 96 cavy and his 04 fire and those specs are correct. did GM drill 2 holes for this or did you guys have to drill your own. i will be posting a whole frame rack measurment chart later to HOPEFULLY get put in the FAQ for people to use as needed. but im curious what the deal is. my instructor INSISTS that the front of a fire will NOT fit on my car. no matter what we tell him. any help is apreciated.

Just show him a picture of a CavFire lol.

another one of those i havnt dont it myself so it can't be done. there are tons of guys here that have done it. print of a few pics of guys that have done it and go show your teacher wrong.

thats not really the question tho. those 2 front bolts DO HAVE a wider point to them. theres a further distance on seths fire than there is on my cav. i just wanna know why?

and yes you are correct..... the bolt holes for the fenders are different.... no big deal



just drill new ones.... thats why the call it custom

pics of what bolt holes you mean? because when i swapped fronts with a sunfire owner, neither of us had to redrill anything.

it might have to do with the years....... but the holes definitly didnt line up for me

yeah i was wondering if the years had anything to do with it. i swapped a 97 cav front for a 97 fire front. i can imagine that there may have been a change either in 00 or 03 with the redesigns...

on my 04 all the correct holes were there but now i have 2 new holes right next to the fender in the front and they are unused..sad thing is i cant remember if they were for the stock headlights or what...
