sunfire toyota tails ??
Wednesday, November 21, 2007 7:56 PM
anyways this is what a night of smoking and drinking come up with lol my buddy has a 2000 fire and he really wants to do something different with his tails other then the usual or even going as far as customizing a totally different set in there, anyways we thought about making toyota tails for a sunfire, first we take a tail light lens that is perfectly clear then tape off the outside edge and between where the brakes and blinkers are, then paint the outer part black then on the inside of the lens use stained glass tint in RED and staind glass tint in AMBER for the outside, I think they will come out very nice and we will post pics of them when we are done but for now here is a crappy msn paint sample to get the idea

Comments and Criticism welcome

I've already thought about doing this, but decided not to because the Sunfire tails use one bulb on each side for both the turn signal and brake lights. In other words both the amber and red sides would be lit up at all times.

Unless you could separate the amber and red part inside the light.

I think it would look really nice if you could seperate the amber and red part, and use separate bulbs for turns and brakes. Would look really nice on that white Sunfire.

maybe you could use the lower turn signal on the bumper..

cut it and extend it to the amber section. making sure the housing is seperated so when you use the turn signal, it's the only section that lights up. i'm going to the junkyard sat to grab a set of sunfire tails cuz i could do this too. i know i don't have a sunfire but it'd be fun.

thoughts??

of course it could be done, just get the wiring harness for some yota tails, and wire them according to the directions for the cavalier. Shouldn't be that different

toyo tails are two sockets?
I have cavy tails(STOCK) IN MY SUNFIRE SEDAN WHICH HAS TWO SOCKETS AND TWO BULBS, BUT FOR THE STOCK CAVY TAILS I CAN ONLY USE ONE BULB IN THE outers, the inners are doing nothing for me, i wonder if toyo tails would work on my car.....

That does look good the idea you have there for your sunfire coupe, looks good man.

Turn signal on the bumper? only thing close to a turn signal on the Sunfire bumpers is the side marker lights, which if they are like the front side markers then they'll light up with the primary turns/park lights. So I don't think that would work. Only way I see it possible is to use the harness for the Toyota Cav tails, separate the insides of the housings into two parts, and make new holes in the back of the light assemblies to plug the new bulbs into.

Yes, Toyota Tails have a 2 bulb system. They are to 3157 bulbs, not 1 3157 and a peanut marker light. In order for them to work, you must re-wire the toyota harness into your stock wiring system, and cut the brake feed line in the steering column. If you really want details, search a 'yota tail install, and your answers will be there

lol, thats my car..., i also have aset of clear sunfire tails mounted to housing, in a box some were..,ai did have this idea aswell. but in stead of painting the plastic lense, paint the reflective surface of the housing red and amber. i had a photo shop of it some were..,

yeah we used it because on izntrbl's websiite it had the clear tails on it so we started with that then made a tota stle light for a sunfire

doesnt look too hard but we need to find where to get yota wire kit for the tails then we will just wire it into the harness as if it was a cavy

You dont need crap from a toyota cavalier to make it work.. go to a junkyard and find some broken taillights.. i got 4 of em for free and started cutting 2 up and mounting the socket holes into the tails.. I've been working on this exact thing but for cavy for what seems forever but its been like a year and a half. You guys are putting tooooo much thought into it and making it harder then it has to be.
Making these to mount reverse light next to the regular taillight for when i shave inners.

and the wiring to do what you want is pretty effin simple if u think about it and you dont need jack from a Toyota cavalier..

yeah but you are doing that for a cavy right? I am making them for a sunfire, there isnt much room in a sunfire tail at least in the 2 door version, it can be done though im just gonna drill a hole and use a 194 socket and light, then I will make a wall to seperate the two ( blinker and brake/tailight ) but yeah you have the same idea

Re: sunfire toyota tails ??
Friday, November 23, 2007 6:23 AM
trust me there isnt much room in a cav tail as well.. hense why i had to mount the reverse light hole bout 2" back from where the lense wouldnt hit it

also your 194 bulb is going to SUCK for daytime turn signal

I LOVE how that looks.

Toyo Sunfire FTW! haha

... Yet ANOTHER reason I want a sunfire.

I can see this being a market for a bunch of people, If I owned a Sunfire I'd buy them for it.

I think this would be awesome. I'm working on a similar type project for a 350z...putting reverse lights in the tails and shaving the factory seperate reverse lights. Good luck!!

GM produced them for Toyota here in the states and they were shipped over to Japan. Think they were made from 96-00.
