now, in NYS inspection says you need reverse lights, if you shave you inner tails on the 3RD gen. how do you pass NY inspection gh3tt0 fab. it or whattt?
i would think you would have to do a custom outer or do something like a sunfire and do it in the bumper.
mount a fog light housing on the bottom of the spare tire well wired up to the reverse lights.

although, you could get the 00 toyota tails and put the reverse lights in the clear part that is meant for turn sigs. if you use your regular taillight bulbs, they will function as running/brake/turn lights and so the space to the side can be used for reverse. i always wanted to do this, but ended up shaving the tails completely.

Im in the NH area and I put fog lights in my licence plate area. There are some cars that have them right there so I figured it'd be ok. But I wasn't passed. So I made friends with someone who does inspections
The reason I wasnt passed was because atleast in NH the reverse lights must be in factory location. If you had a sunfire bumper you could prolly get away with it OR swap ur trunk for inspection.
swapping trunks seems like some extra bullshyte, just another thing to think about, im in the upstate region just outside of the ROCH.
i like the modified toyota tail idea. i too live in ny and i do inspection but i still made sure i had reverse lights. it's mostly because a-i actually use them and b-if everyone else's car has to have them to pass it's not fair for my to sit there and take advantage of my ability to get away with things. when i inspect my car i always make sure it's actually legal to pass. you can even do fold up ones in the bumper and just fold them down before you bring the car in for inspection. when u don't need to get it inspected they'll be hidden. just an idea.

you could also use reverse lights from the 95-99 sunfire sedans. they arre small and innocuous enough that you could incorporate them into your rear bumper w/o too much of a problem.

hey, im in the roch, and my buddy works at goodyear, ill either a) see how you can get around it, or b) see if he can do it or have some1 else do it, no garentee's but ive been beatin the @!#$ty inspection system here for a couple years
