So i am thinking of making my own body lit because i can't find anything i like. what would the best material be to make it out of?
Would i be able to take a stack bumper and hack it up to how i would like it?

okay, If you really need to askt his question this project is probably going to overwhelm your skills in a hurry, specially if you want it to look decent. With that being said. There are no rules, if you want to hack up your stock bumper go for it. I would go to your nearby Lowes, and pick up the Great big sheets of metal mesh. this will hold shape and give you a foundation to begin to adding on to your stock bumpers, or to start creating them. if I can find a picture, I'll post it up of a rear bumper we cut and added the mesh to to change the look! Good luck, but plan on lots of downtime, becuase anything that can go wrong will!

I dont know what your skills are but , I wouldnt recommend an ameture to do a fiberglass project of that size. The end quality is going to be less than the cheap crappy kits that are available. If you want to have a custom kit I would recommend that you buy a cheap fiberglass kit that has some of the lines that you want, then cut that up to make it like you want. Then cause its a cheap kit, get some extra mat and build up the back side to strengthen it. Make it fit the car and your done.

Dont think that your going to save lots of cash by building a kit from scratch, cause you arent. the cost of materials alone will be really high. price a gallon of resin and some fiber mat for example. Then consider the cost of building your mold , your time, all the itchyness, loss of sleep from itching while you sleep, your health from breathing the particles and fumes, and so on and so on.

For you I would really consider buy ing the cheap kit above then tinker with it. Your going to be happier in the long run.

yea I agree with Joe... I think your best bet to making a custom look would be to buy a fiberglass kit, and then manipulate it the way you want but cutting/glassing small portions.

you dont want to use fiberglass on a urethane bumper as it will eventually seperate and cause cracking, as they expand at different rates.
