I was looking through a 4 wheel drive magazine and saw an adapter for chevy trucks to convert the 9006 low beam in to a high beam bulb (essentially running a high beam 65 watt bulb in the low beam spot) so i got on the internet and did some searching. looks like this is a VERY common thing for people with 9005 and 9006 bulbs. you just run 2 9005 bulbs on each side. all thats needed is to cut the 2 grooves out of the bulb socket so that it fits the 9006 harness. it sounds like it improves light drastically. thanks for any input
interesting... try it, take pics, post results!!!
i would think burning or melting issues .. or mabe not
Also is it legal? If i understand it correctly you are getting ride of your low beam and replacing it with a high beam. I know for PA inspection you need a high beam and low beam.
it shouldnt be illegal. where the low beams go the light is focused in a different spot. the BMW, Mazda, some honda and a few other guys do this. toyota trucks and cars also. and i wouldnt think runing 10 extra watts would melt anything. the wiring is the same gauge for bothe high and low beams so it should be safe. im thinking ill try it this weekend.
does it work alot better with just the stock housing. do you get more light output??? i bought the bulbs today so
just got done putting them in. they seem brighter but its not nightime here yet. so we will see. i will update at 2 am. hehe. thats when i get outta school
Yah i got aharness with my projectors that allowed me to do that. helped a bit..
me personally, If I where gona so that I would wire it up like HID's using a relay etc.. higher wattage bulbs then the circuit is meant for can melt the harnesses, burn up wires, etc.. bad news.
well its workin for me so far. the harness has the same gauge wire as the high beams so. i dont think its a big deal. plus a company makes the adapter to do it and it says nothing about upgrading wireing. its workin find and i have a bit more output so im happy.
BTW darkstars. i didnt mean to insult your intelligence. i can see where your coming from and i trust you completely. ill run them for another week and look for signs of the harness breaking down. like melted wires, stiff wires, etc.
