I know its been done anyone have a how to on the silvian conversion? any pics and or previous posts would be appreciated.
if you don't mind me asking, whats a silvian?
http://www.jbodytuner.com
^^ The real jbody store and forums!!!!!
ok so i added an n lets all freak out SILVIA better
cut and fit thats about the best how-to. there is no real how-to for body mods
So are you converting a J to a Nissan Silvia?? Or are you asking to convert a 180, 200 or 240sx? Just wondering, because I am a bit confused.
there have been people that have used s15 headlights and front clips on their j bodies. i just wanted to know if anyone has done it if they have a how to. buying s15 parts isnt cheap so i dont want to buy everything if i cant do it without dumping piles of cash the car isnt worth that.
if you cant figure out how to do something like that then don't do it.... people spend 10000 of hours to be different why would thye right a how to so yours could be the same only without the effort.
ok first off no one asked for anyone to be a smartass. and why would someone write a how to? hmm why does anyone come to a forum on here to learn and share their knowledge. just because someone has done something different doesnt mean that they are keeing it to themselves. like the eco swap, lsj swap,3400 swap,l67 swap. theres a million posts about what other ppl have so think before you post something stupid.

write ups on engine swaps are completely different than figuring out how to modify a whole front end to accept new lights. if you were to search you might find a progress thread on one of the few Js who have done this swap. but to expect for someone to do all of the work and then type up a how to on a complicated, custom project like this...? thats asking for a bit much.
also, theres no reason to get butt hurt over what bummrz said. he wasnt being rude or a smart ass....he was simply explaining that people dont do all of the custom work to be different just so they can hand it over to lazy people on a silver platter.
coming back in 2008...
Words are hard to decipher when they're typed, it can seem like someone's being a smartass when you don't have the voice to go along with it, I get what the dude is saying about the conversion, it's nice to have instructions, but as well I know that body work is up to the imagination. and I agree that you have to figure it out on your own, if I did a mod that took forever I would want mine to be the only one around
also...if you do decide to do it, don't hack up your whole car, practice on a junker first.
Theres no how-tos with custom bodywork....
yeah there is no how to's that i've seen on custom jobs like that, most people on here who have done them just show progress pics as they go...i have the silvia lights like you're asking about but have no pics or how to since i paid for it to be done

Talk to or PM Joey (Joey Baggs) I believe that he molded s15 lights into his front end, he might be able to point you in the right direction. But basically there isn't a write-up like some have already said.

i have s15 headlights. the only thing you need to buy is the headlights really. everything else is custom fab work. be prepared though, the headlights are not cheap. on average they run about 700 for the set. you have to build the front bumper up a tad but its not to bad. the real work is on the hood and fenders. not to mention once thats all done you need custom work to the rad support to make the headlights fit.
1. How much do you REALLYYYYYYYYYYYYYY know about body work and custom/fab work? If you have enough knowledge on this subject, you woudln't be asking. not to be a biotch, (and i'm not trying to be), but it isn't like this is "entry level" body work you're talking about here. Doing this type of custom fabrication takes some skill, patience, and knowledge of what you're doing so that you're doing it properly.
2. It's impossible for anyone and to expect anyone to have write ups on every possible body mod/ custom fabrication there is. If there was one for the Silvia "conversion", there'd have to be one for putting in Eclipse lights, tC lights, this light, this mod, that mod... entirely too time consuming.
3. I worked on Signal 13's car back when I was still doing body work every day on his Silvia light conversion and other custom work. It was a PITA, and took a LOT of time and fabrication. Heck I had the training and I still wouldn't want to mess with it... I'd rather pay someone else to do the work myself LOL. Then again maybe I'm just getting older, but I don't have the level of patience I used to anymore I guess.
I guess what I'm going to say to you is this. If you REALLY want to do this yourself that badly, pick up some junk parts or whatever... and practice practice practice. But, the 1st question still needs to be answered, and that is how much autobody knowledge do you have anyway?

Alright ... am i the only one who has posted a write up to a headlight swap. My write up is sitting on v6z24.com right now for the BMW E36 in to a Second Gen Phase II Cavalier... (of course i ended up just molding em when i did the BMW E30 hood hinge swap (make the hood/headlights/front bumper/ front fenders open corvette style)
My advice:
1) Get a spare set of head light brackets
2) Try to make the headlights fit in them
3) Try to make the headlights in the brackets both bolt to the car and fit cosmetically as best as possible
4) If they dont fit cosmetically (in a 3rd gen, GOOD LUCK... i didnt have to do this in the second gen) you're gonna have to mold or weld to make em look right. Keep in mind, the headlights have to be adjustable, and the hood, fenders, and front bumper need to be separate.
If this sounds like too much work... don't attempt doing this...

well as long as you agree Kyle, then I won't have to pull up a stool to stand on to kick your arse
j/k and if you're working on write ups for everything over there, good luck, people will still complain, and it could still be a dangerous thing to write up how to's for people who don't have the training to do high level customization... IMHO, because if it involves a structural/important part of the car, and they don't follow the instructions, it could compromise the safety of the vehicle
oh and darn you for not letting me sleep

Thats what disclaimers are for...
Quote:
We are not responsible if you break your car. Further, if your car: becomes inoperable, unsafe to drive, catches on fire, blows up, or begs you to stop, please note that its not our fault. You should have read the how-to in full before attempting work.
haha
and thats a good idea... thank you... imma have each write up rated in difficulty
now that i know how to code in PHP... i can do a lot more of what i wanna do
EDIT: While we are editing posts... Its after 6 i should be asleep too... wanna go cuddle up somewhere =P j/k

Yeah, but most people ignore disclaimers to save a buck, and COULD end up losing so much more by cutting corners too... it's kinda like the VSS mod debate. if you give someone even some knowledge, and they abuse it, it could be putting lives at risk.
On one hand, it's good to have teh knowledge there for the people who TRUELY want to do it the right way, but you know by putting it up you're giving someone the chance to cut corners and potentially ruin someone's life. If someone cuts a corner on an important part of the car and compromises the structural integrity of said part, it could cost someone their lives.
EDIT: STOP MAKING ME EDIT POSTS!!! LOL and sure come on up... LMFAO
EDIT 2: You bastage...

well people are gonna cut corners whether they have guide or try it with no help... at least in this case, a guide is a lil bit more helpful and at least gives a direction to go...
EDIT: sure thing... ure about 5 hours away, maybe 4 if i take the Z and put the LD9 to use ... haha ... oh and i'm sorry for using the C word =P

yeah this is true also... you can't prevent everyone from doing stupid things no matter what you do, so I guess I must agree on the writeup principle you have
EDIT: ok i'll have coffee and doughnuts waiting LMFAO... and your apology is accepted... this is starting to sound bad
... i'm kidding also lol

yeah... and if like you blow your motor doing a headlight swap.... something is seriously wrong.... the first question i'd ask the person " did you remember to fill up the blinker fluid) =P
But i can see the safety issues... such as what if they fall out while driving at night on dark roads.... what if they arent adjusted right and unadjustable... well ure blinding someone (serves em trucks right though (as my lowered car gets blinded by them all the time)... ) or ure pointing straight down and cant see anything farther than a couple feet.... and with electrical comes a nightmare if you know nothing about 12v electricity ...
EDIT: I think i'd need coffee after that kinda drive... i dont wanna be sluggish ROTF ...LMAO for real i'm kidding...
EDIT2: i dont wanna see this go to AG... so lets end this here =P
