A buddy of mine wants me to wrap his trunk lid with carbon fiber for him. He told me he had to bondo some spots on the trunk when he had it panted. I've heard that if you put carbon fiber over bondo and the sun beats down on it it turns the carbon fiber yellowish. Is this true?
are you puting it directly over the filler? or has it been painted?
sounds like its been painted, in which case you should be ok. well, as long as it isnt rattle can
i believe he has it primered. i was gonna sand it and then spray it with primer sealer. think that would be good?
i would lay down a layer of black paint if i were you...otherwise you'll see the filler right thru the weave. same with primer...if its grey, you'll see it thru the weave
always paint black under cf. the weave is so loose that you'll see whatever color is underneath it. as far as yellowing- the only reason i've ever seen that is prolonged exposure to the sun. best bet is to spray is with an automotive clear coat after the resin has cured.
where can you buy sheets of real carbon fiber?

uscomposites.com is where i order mine. it comes as a clothe, i get it on a roll but i believe they can fold it too. if you want prefab sheets, then idk but i believe they make them.

folding c/f is baaaaaad business. it makes the weave come apart and leaves fold lines in the finished product. USC will send it rolled up.
do like what these guys have said: spray black underneath and auto clear it when done.

awsome great to know that it will last. the reason i asked is because someone on here said that the guy who did his roof in C/F, after awhile it yellowed on him becuase of bondo under it.
kinda thread jacking but does that mean you could put lets say red underneath and you would see red through the cf????
btw hey ryan, hows it hangin? i still havent painted that hood yet...summer project
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

yes, but it wouldnt be red tinted or anything cool looking. it would look half-assed.
they do make tints for c/f resin though and IMO they look pretty slick

You need to prime the mud. Wet sand it down then spray it with black base, you need to use an activated paint or the resin will not stick. Then you can wrap it in carbon. Good luck and may the force be with you. Post up picks when you are done so we can check it out.
