Shave door handles w/out welding
Wednesday, April 09, 2008 1:08 PM
Hey guys. Im lookin to shave my door handles and locks but have never used a welder and am lookin to do it myself. Instead of welding sheet metal plates over the holes, is there a way to possibly make like a fiberglass plate and mold over it? I use all Evercoat materials, so I know it holds up good. Im just wonderin if that would be feasible or if anyone has ever done it. Thanks.

it might but you should still use a metal plate to fill the area, you might try j-b weld to hold the plate in since u cant weld.

whats the worst case scenario? would the fiberglass crack or would it just not hold up period?

it will crack out, and eventually fall out completely. maybe in a day, maybe in a month. theres really no telling, but all the effort that would go into it just isnt worth it. metal and fiberglass expand and contract at different rates

get a friend or relative to weld them in. you'll thank yourself later

Just put a bunch of bondo in the hole then sand it down... next week when it cracks and falls out you will have a f**ked up door and scuffed paint then youll be forced into doing it the right way

welding isnt that bad or hard. finding someone to borrow the stuff from is the trickiest part

build a widebody over it. there, its hidden, and so long as you dont put handles on the door, you'll never know they were there.

For kryst sake i never figured one little comment would bring about so many smart ass remarks that really arent needed. All i was lookin for was one simple answer, those who didnt agree with my question and didnt want to provide a realistic answer could have kept their comments to themselves. What a bunch of @!#$in 12 year olds. For those of you who did provide mature responses...thanks for the input. I will get it all welded, or like Andy stated i'll just get some scrap metal and practice up untill I get it down. Some of you need to grow up..seriously.

ya man, you can usually get left over skins from auto body places. they leave them laying out alot of times before they go in the trash.

Anybody that crys because people on the internet are smart asses shouldn't be here, if you don't like it or can't handle it go somewhere else.

If this upsets you I also hope you don't have to live in the real world.

I saw a Honda with that once... so I snapped a pic of the result of bondo failing... it was pretty horrid... on all four doors too!

Add one more to the "weld it!" pile
