i was wondering if anyone had any expereince using the Duplicolor Fabric&Vinyl paint on there convertible top? my top has stains that cannot be removed by detail shop or myself. i saw white Duplicolor Fabric&Vinyl paint and i thought maybe to use it.
Has anyone done this before?
if you are going to attempt something like that, at least use the SEM vinyl dye. dont cheap out with a wal mart brand.
i'd find a test panel first. cus really all you'd be doing is painting over dirt - am i right?
Well its lost some color so no so much dity per say. Its stains from the skeleton supporting the top
stains, not dirt. but that may still show through if he does it in white again. best bet by far is to dye black
My top has been dyed for quite some time actually. Twice. Its originally white and i dyed it white the first time. It came out nice and coverd really well. The second time black and you cant even tell. I used SEM also. Ive never had to touch it up at all. i say go for it.
Really? di you have that Euro Vinyl on your car? not regular vinyl? The euro Vinyl is EXTRA hard i am almost 99% sure if i paint it that it wont soak the paint just maybe cover it and chip off really easily.
vinyl dye soaks into the material. it doesnt just cover it. ive used it on my dash, on my parents leather seats and on a friends pleather seats. works really good and im sure it would work out on your top. i would go black if i was you
did you guys have to do any prep work? i am just going to paint it white? having problem finding where to buy th e SEM stuff, did you buy it online?
Also when i found SEM Sailcloth White Plastic and Vinyl Color Coat it says on the site clearly SEM vinyl and plastic COLOR COAT is a fade-resistant, flexible and permanent coating. SEM COLOR COAT is not a dye.
i used a scuff pad on the stuff just in case and used a grease wax remover on it. i ordered mine online
SEM offers a vinyl prep. wash your top then use the prep then youre good to go. i did a set of white seats with it and turned them black. looked badass and held up well.

The Duplicolor works good on the boots, interior panels and such,I know, mine came out really nice but if you don't want to use the dye Tabs recommended then you can try LIST oil.It is a good cleaner that is specificially made for vinyl and was recommended to me by an upholstery shop.

your saying you use Dupli Super white color vinyl paint on your convertible without prep beside cleaning the top with soap and water and it came out good?
ive used duplicolor and SEM. duplicolor can/will work for some things on the interior or whatever. but you want to do a major part of your exterior....one that will see the heat of summer and the ice/snow of winter. do yourself a favor and spend the extra $7-8 per can to get something that you KNOW will work. to do the WHOLE top, in black, you could get away with 4 cans easily. thats $50 for a good product versus $20 for a mediocre product.
