How do i go about shortening the stock antenna, just chop and weld or what? Without purchasing a shorty antenna, i'd rather just chop mine.

I think I remember coming across a post where someone was talking about/showing how they went about chopping their antenna... prolly need to search for it
I personally would just get one for $12 and not have to worry about messing anything up/ breaking/ and then having to buy a new one anyways...
its not that hard. i have done 3 of them already ( i end up trading them to my freinds for there stock ones and i just amke a new one) but its really easy. FIRST take the antenna off the car, then pull the ball off the end of the antenna. youll need vicegrips to do this. you might mark up the ball. but some sandpaper will take care of that later. once you have the ball off cut the antenna to length and reinstall the ball. you will probably have to taper the piece of antenna that you just cut so the ball will fit on. and it IS press fitted so do not taper it to much. once you have the ball back on and its sturdy (you know it isnt going to go anywhere) then take some 180 grit sandpaper and sand all the paint off (and some of them actually have a thin coat of plastic instead. its odd but it will sand off) and then take a color of your choice and repaint the whole antenna. i opted to powdercoat mine chrome since i had the stuff to do it.
anyways. i hope this helps. if you have any questions you can PM me and ill help the best i can.
ok, sounds good to me, i am going to do this soon. just a dumb question, tapering, how do i do this. I'm still a metal working n00b.

i took mine, picked a desired length, cut it off with a grinder, TIG welded it back on to the base. done and done.
I picked up a shorty off of ebay.... took a whole 30 seconds to change out.... plus it was only $15.... my time is worth more then $15...
sounds like a lot of work when you can just buy one. Or even better shave it off completely
[quote=BoltZ DesignZ™]I just bought mine from

I got my shorty off ebay was well.
I just cut the top off and put a rubber vacuum tip on it and screwed it back on. Took 3 mins
