Hey dudes and chickaz.... I am getting ready to fiberglass some evil eyes on my fiberglass predator hood and wanted to know if this method would work. Some of you may remember my car was totaled and I decided to repair it, saldy the car isn't painted yet and I have to drive around looking rice, till I finish prepping the car. The car now has the Sunfire Xplosion VS2 front bumper, Z3 fenders, Predator Hood, Invader rear, and my old Drift/Blitz sider skirts. Some crappy pics below, that spoiler is being removed soon as well, ordered a new more flattering one....
Ok now back to the fiberglassing the evil eyes. Here's the method I was thinking:
Step 1: Remove hood (dahhhh)
Step 2: Cut out two cardboard templates, larger than the actual evil eye size
Step 3: Sand gel coat where evil eyes will be glassed, both sides of hood
Step 4: Tape templates to top side of the hood
Step 5: Turn hood over, so underside is facing up
Step 6: Sand glassing area then start glassing from the underside onto the cardboard
Step 7: Once 3-4 layers of mat/cloth is laid, overturn hood top side facing up (waiting proper drying times)
Step 8: Remove the taped templates
Step 9: Lay 3 layers of cloth on top side of hood, adhering to previous work from underside ( waiting proper drying times)
Step 10: Sand evil eyes, removing excess glass and smoothing for blending
Step 11: Add body filler (rage gold) to hood and repeat sanding till smooth even surface.
You guys think that method would work ok? I've seen the write up for evil eyes, but mainly relates to welded ones more than fiberglass.
Also if anyone is in the Cumberland, Farmville, Dillwyn, Appomatix, or Lynchburg , Virginia areas hit me up. I passed a Cavfire the other day coming from the farmville/cumberland area. It looked good, was a cavalier with cavy invader rear, drift sides and sunfire invader front, the car was in grey primer. Looked sick.
IF YOU MUST FIBERGLASS i would drill holes in the hood very colse to the edges cuz glass will not hold on to metal for long
