What would you guys use to clean out your engine bay? Mine's getting just a tad dirty, aka gross.

for the vavle cover and what not i find that oven cleaner works better then engine cleaner.as for the paint you could was it by hand or use a high pressure sprayer as said above. and to clarify the midgets comment just wrap them up in a towl and drive down a rough rode swerving erratically and the midget movement should get it pretty clean.

gremlins are much smaller and really better suited for cleaning wheels.

I use black magic engine shine, its a degreaser and shine in one, spray it on a towel and wipe it off

Ok cool. I like the midgets/gremlins idea better; they're free....ish. But yeah, some people use steam or something but i dont wanna crap up the electronics or anything. A pressure washer wouldn't screw anything up would it?

Bottom Line, is how dirty your engine is. If it is just DUSTY and DIRT I would use something like a dish-soap solution, let it sit and then hose off with a GARDEN HOSE. If you have GREASE, OIL and GRIME, get an ENGINE CLEANER, spray it on, let engine run to build heat, let cool for about 15 mins and then use a HIGH PRESSURE SPRAYER. In both cases, water won't hurt your electrical - DON'T spray directly onto electrical components, or onto CRANKCASE BREATHER. Then wipe down what you can with a towel, or even use an air hose. If for some reason you get it into ELECTRICAL COMPONETS, use WD-40, it is cheaper then WIRE-DRYER and works the same for displacing moisture.

All and All you will be fine
