I got an extra trunk laying around and I want to try my hand at shaving it.
I was thinking to use the stock tails, and build up around them. leaving the reverse light intact(since I've already got heat about it from the po-po)
What did you guys use? bondo.. fiberglass?

You have to weld in new metal. Bondo and glass will crack over time and make it look like @!#$.
listen to tinkles....i understand the need for reverse lights, but you have to come up with a different solution....like sunfire rear bumper, or fog lighs mounted up in the rear...something.
bondo and fiberglass "shaved trunk" is like getting an 80 year old hooker.....its not worth the time/money involved.
bondo....and plenty of it
thanks guys. I'll see if I can find anyone around here who can weld.

Or just dent in the holes a little bit, use one inch diameter fiber glass over each hole, then when that dries add a 1/2" over each hole, then sand, Bondo, Fill in the heat cracks in the bondo with spot putty, sand it nice and smooth, Primer it, then pain then clear coat it

Then after your tired of fixing the cracks all the time, get another trunk and weld it. Do it right the 1st time.
or for the time spent, goto the junk yard and by one w/o a spoiler......
ecomadness = fail, waste of time....

hack
im sure your car is real nice
/sarcasm
ha, ecomadness got owned.
bondo = cracks = ugly
welding = no cracks = sexy
bondo is not made to fill in holes and shave things. its a body filler that is used to fill in low spots after your done welding areas. you should never fill in holes with it nor with fiberglass if the part is metal. it will crack and fall out with the constant change in weather. weld it shut and shave yourself the hassel of redoing it and repainting your lid.
as far as lights so, you dont need them just keep a spare lid for inspections. i had a shaved lid for close to 4 years and never had a problem at all with cops. even being pulled over they never mentioned a word about not having any reverse lights.
Gotta weld it! (sorry, little blurry)
you could also get a shaved fiberglass trunk lid and save yourself the trouble of doing all the work.
gee ben, where could someone find such a trunk??
i have a fiberglassed shaved trunk
if you plan on painting it classglass sells them
i've got a shaved trunk lid off a 95' Z24, dunno if it would fit your car, but i'll sell it really really cheap. the cars goin to the scrap yard saturday, so, yeah. the trunk lids only gonna be around for another day.
^^^pic of trunk and price?
This is mine that is for sale,$30 and it's yours

yeah, i'll put a pic up saturday, i'll go on and remove the trunk lid before i scrap it, i'll take $25 for it, plug S&H. it's not like BIGGSZ24's though, if thats what your looking for, mine is completely shaved, no reverse lights, just one smooth trunk lid. the previous owner had a wing and all the other stuff on it and decided to shave it all off, so there is nothing on it.
before it was shaved
