Ford, Dodge, Honda have seen on a 2.4 twin cam cavalier yet could of been hand made the pic one ranges 799-1,000 def not worth it highley illegal and unsafe.(unless its a trailer queen) then who cares.
p.s. JCWhitney.com
Arent those clear hoods made out of a material called lexan?
I fail to see how they would be unsafe and illegal...

compared to carbon fiber or fiberglass....
how is it not legal? the fact that it dont have the latch or that its lexan? i dont see any prob. with lexan since it a lot stronger the glass its self, after all Nascar and NHRA use it , lexan is a good way for weight reduction

not sure what they are made of but to answer john the reason. 1. they are not dot approved(off road use only) there for are subject to safety inspection failure, (this applyes to use law bittin citizens that legally pay for inspection states where applical). 2. not shown in pic they are held only by pins in front. 3. notice the fact they are clear there is no framing or crush zones incase of accident there for most likely this thing is heading trew the windsheild at ur head. 4. some states insists that this item is a taunt by cops and maybe sited as intent to race(street race). ive seen some in person and they really are not to thick seems to me that if u were on a highway and this things fractured by damage causing it to weaken it would be highly likely that it would end up blowing up and into the windsheild. I personally choose safety over style especially in the front end of a car. take how u want this is my input and opinion on this item. like i mentioned this would be perfect on a trailer queen but for a dd not a good choice imo. sure u can swap hoods and blah blah blah. and to side note most info stated here was found by searching in forums, test results by users back in the day, input from those who own them. these are nothing new they have been around long enought to back up said above. yes joker they do use in nascar and such yet compare , those cars are designed around the fact they way nothing and the cage/frame is designed for safety and protection. public cars rely on metal hoods as a part of the crash protection we need in the event of a accident they work with the frame to protect us. u want one get one ur choice ur life this is food for thought on the matter take it leave it. -end
whys the clear any diff from a a fiberglass hood? get into an accident with a c/f hood and it just blows apart and dosent fold like a steel hood

Very good explanation. The best point is it doesn't have any framing, whereas my fiberglass hood does even though it is not as strong as metal.
I'd still rock it though
then just buy the damn thing.
i would if they made them for the 03+ cav

a local guy had one here on his 99z, not sure where it went. as far as i know they stop making them
make one? im sure someone who is mechanically inclined would be able to fab something up...
they sell HUGE lexan sheets, and all you really have to do is cut to shape, and then heat to flex it. lay it on top of a metal hood and heat til it bends to spec. then mount it somehow.
pictures and google.
and if your worried about safety that much... stay away from any aftermarket product. lol
if i wanted safety i would have bought a car with tons of air bags and sensors all around it w/ camras , if i wanted safety i wouldnt have modded my cavi and started building a hot rod

if i got one id make it open the oppisite way so if the latch or something failed it wouldent fly up in my face and if you think about where the latch is and where the hinges are bolted the hood dont provide any structural rigidity the crumple zones are only to prevent the metal from tearing apart and sending a piece thru the windshield because in a crash (sharp chunks of metal>windshield where as plastic fiberglass or what ever<windshield , carbon fiber is extremely toxic so splinters off of that from a crash is a hazard why isint that illegal, its illegal not to have a bumper cover as well when we all know that urethane crap don't do diddly in a crash its only for the signal lights, in conclusion i think it is safer not to have any hood at all but that would look ridiculous that is why it is there and the reason why the crumple zones are in the hood is to keep the hood in one piece in a crash flying pieces of sharp metal is bad but flying pieces of sharp plastic is not so bad. but use your own discretion personally i have scrapped quite a few j's in accidents and the hood don't do squat except... well squat, and on the other hand i removed the airbags out of my j to save weight. if you ask me if you are that concerned about your safety go buy a truck and lift it off the ground about 10 feet or so put the biggest push bar you can find on the front put a full roll cage with racing seats and 5 point harness in it and dont forget to drive around with a motor cross helmet paint it camouflage and put a 11mm anti air craft cannon on top of it to deal with that pesky mid afternoon traffic and police helicopters trust me your gonna need it after the cops see your clear hood and pull you over for streetracing
the look tacky IMO. A nice FG or CF hood is gunna be better looking than that.....They make them for ricers because they're ricey.
No offense to those interested......but not my cup o tea.
And yes, they are illegal for not having any frame structure for sure.
Id be pulled over everywhere for that thing......
just drive around without a hood, its much cheaper and you'd look REALLY cool...
ive done that when i had my Probe , but it was at like mid night
