Ok i am very annoyed by the way my 99 fire has been running since I did the 2.4 swap. 2000 motor,1997 computer and harness in a 99 fire. Any way i've been having a bog when crusing and then go to give it a little gas or alot doesn't matter. It act's like the timing is retarding because of no power for a good 10 sec's then takes off.
Well the only thing is i don't have the egr which in my old 96 z24 when the egr went bad( telling computer it was open) did the same thing and also had a missfire at idle and would miss through out the rpms. Not bad just enough to notice. When i stuck a new egr on it was fine. Well yesterday i hooked it up to the scanner and sure enough it is retarding the timing when going from idle and giving gas or a blimp of the thottle and i believe it is because of no egr.
Since the computer uses the map to detect when the egr is working and the egr is suppose to help with detonation. I belive the computer is running in some saftey mode since egr codes are being thrown. Thus retard timing so there is no detonation.
Is this possible? If so i don't want egr big pain in the butt. Is there anyone around va,maryland, or pa. Maybe like no more than 4 hours away with hptuners or anyone know of a shop with it to turn off the egr and tune it n/a possibly? Has wideband already wired up.. Also willing to pay just can't afford the full price of hp tuners at the moment. The only other option i know of is to run a 99 computer or just have my 97 flashed to a 99 which i'm sure is possible also.
But i would have to change the pinouts on the harness because of the knock sensor and o2 correct? Maybe someone would have the pinouts and if i could do that i would. Still have all the 2000 stuff i had to switch.
Sorry not sure how this got in the exterior forum but can someone move it to performance. Thanks
