Projection headlight questions
Wednesday, November 19, 2008 3:06 PM
I just bought a used set of projection headlights and I only have one problem. The Low Beans are way to dim. There is a clear lens in front and looks foggy. any Ideas. Should I try using a q-tip through the Bulb hole!

Post a picture and I'll see if I can't help you.

Using meguires plasticX on your headlights will certainly clear everything up if it isn;t to severe.

But I would post a pic to be safe.

I've been down this path (and I still am working things out). Obviously doing a custom fab with a good OEM projector will yield the best results, but for those eBay and second hand purchases you'll likely be making compromises. I've tried the following popular projectors styles, and can give you quick reviews:

^
Fitment: 3/10
Brightness: 2/10
Aquired: Used, a bit beat up.

Could not be properly aimed with provided mounting. Projector sucked ass, and was simply dangerous to try and drive . The cut-off was blurry and the design resulted in a ginormous dead spot in the lighting directly in front of the car. Low beam insert points were too small to accept 9006 bulbs for no apparent reason, and required dremeling. Must have been designed by cross-eyed sweat shop workers that had never seen a Cavalier.

Fitment: 6/10
Brightness: 8/10
Aquired: Used, like new.

One-piece with corner markers is slick design. Fitment a bit dodgey, with unresolvable gaps around corners. Low beams use non-stock H1-style bulbs, which were included with my set. Lighting is even, with good cutoff and adjustability. Brightness rivals stock. LEDs and Angels Eyes are nice if you're into that sort of thing.

I have Anzo. I bought them used. they are clear but I have my stock bulbs in. Would brighter bulbs help. Not HID, i was told by the company to just put ultra brights in.

Try looking at Lumics bulbs, and PIAA bulbs. Try to stay away from silver stars... they die very quickly.

Be sure that you do not get a bulb higher than 55 watts, as this will burn you harness and head lights.

But there are certainly plenty of light bulbs out there that are great.

Good luck

I've been running silver star ultra's in both my fires for nearly 2 years almost and not a problem. Got them when advance was running there sale on um for 2 pack for like $30. Now if you but those cheap apc racing bulbs. Well have fun is all i got to say.
