Whatever you want to call it.. I'm making one
Here's what an hour, some duct tape, pvc, some scissors and cardboard got me.
I plan on making it out of aluminum and it will be more for looks than an indestructible bumper saver.
This is the design I plan on going off of those let me know what you think needs to be changed (higher, wider, materials, ect.)
If you don't like it don't bother posting because I'm in love with it right now!!
Sorry for crappy pics.
what are you mounting it to?
right know it looks as if it is designed to apply extra leverage during an accident to completely destroy the front end.

thats kinda what I was thinking, but all in all just the prefab doesnt look to bad..
my concern is though, ive been in a few rear end collisions and my cave held up pretty well on its own (speeds werent high luckily) but even though it could save your car some serious damage, it might cause even worse damage to the car in front..
but again..like i said it looks pretty legit even in prefab I wouldnt have been able to tell it was cardboard and ducttape..lol.
now are you gonna have it finished something like this

or something (excuse the pic its from a truck) like this and wrap it across the front bumper?

how the F#$@! did I let that one slip on by.....lol..
I'm mounting it to the metal part of the chassis that the styrofoam shock absorber connects to. There is about a 3 inch slab of 1/4 in thick metal I can bolt the whole thing onto.
Oh and got chevy your second link is the same as the first. But the first link is basically what it is only the top bar is not completely vertical it bend towards the car.

Definitely consider load distribution on your mounting points when you fab it up, if you just run it basicly down and around in a funky U shape then I would be concerned with even a small collision causing considerable damage to your front end.
I say go for it if you dig it.
Make it sturdy as hell I'd hate to see that bar pushed into your grill or over your hood in the future.
FOR SALE
I got a quote today and the aluminum to build it is going to be close to 70 bucks.
This is with connections. I need two 12 in squares 1/4 in thick anyone know where to get these cheaper than 30 a piece?
PM me what you need and I can probably hook you up with a place that will ship it to you. However then you have to factor in shipping prices... but we'll see what it is.
FOR SALE
Just a thought if I understand hows its mounted. Wont that just transfer the impact from the nice boucny bumper onto the solid part of the frame and cause the rad or frame support whatever to bend and cause there to be a lot less impact absorbtion in an accident? If im clear on the mount. I like the look but it just seems unsafe to me.

I don't understand why you put Corvette Gran Sport stripes on your fender

lol reminds me of the guard on the front of a cop car!!! you should paint your doors and the top of your car white and leave the stock black steel wheels on it with no hub caps too!!!
I got the plate of aluminum plus the 12x24 for a complete total of $18.00
Ridiculous!
Ill have it welded by friday and painted by monday..
You posted pictures on a public forum. I don't give a sweet @!#$ if you don't want people to post with negative comments. I think that is a completely pointless and ugly idea. Just my opinion, but seems like a bunch of money that doesn't bring anything aesthetic to the car, nothing functional to the car, and as previously mentioned just extra mass to get @!#$ up or to help @!#$ things up in an accident.
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

with him posting on a public forum and still going through with the project and it would seem he understands people would have something to say and it hasnt changed his mind about it..pretty much making your little rant as pointless if not more so,then you feel this idea of his to be..but thats just my opinion.

By $20 you mean a bunch of money right? Looks cool so it does add aesthetic to my car. I'm assuming you have no clue how it is going to mount so why would you assume it is going to mess things up worse in an accident. That's why over 50% of police cruisers have these, so that they can screw the cruiser up more in an accident.
You'll at least like it enough when it is finished to say I did a good job on it.

But theirs are designed by professionals with degrees. Theirs also isn't designed for "accidents" more for "intentionals" such as pushing a car or slight ramming. If you've ever seen a video of a cop car taking it to the front the hood still folds ups just not as bad as it without. Just my $0.02 well I guess $0.04 cause its my second post.
Did you not complain previously that it was going to cost a bit for the materials? How the hell would I know it only ended up costing $20? Secondly, the police ones are built with intent of protecting their front ends in the even they need to ram a criminal in some manner. Oh yeah, they're not made of aluminum either. If you think it looks cool, good for you, but don't pull stuff out of your ass about structural integrity or protection in an accident, it will not protect a damn thing.

I think if you actually read his post (the one just before your rant , in which you say ..seems to be a bunch of money that doesnt add up to anything) you would have seen him state...
