I got projector headlamps for my cavalier. I have a question they came with bulbs and from my understanding is regular beams use 9006 and the high beam uses 9005.
They all came in 9005, so my question is: are you suppose to run 9005 bulbs on projector headlamps?

depends on the projector.....whatever they were made for is what you should use.
I assume you got some premade 95-99 style projectors. Some of those take an H1, some a 9006, its all dependant on the manufacturer.
well you know how 9005 and 9006 are different in th tip, 9006's have a thing on them and the 9005 dont. im just wonder what blubs to use. since i have 9006 silverstars.

well theres no harm in trying the 9006.
if they dont fit right or the output is off, get the 9005.
If you have unopened 9006's, return them for the 9005.
i think i have the same projectors as you i use cool blue silverstars as my low beam and the 9005 for daytime driving/high beam. you can pretty much use any 9006 what ever floats your boat. i say go hid but thats just me
i do plan on going HID, just in mean time i have silverstars. i guess i will try both 9005 one side and then 9006 on the other side and see what the difference in light out put is.

one more question the projector housing has a purple glow to it. is this for looks or will my lights shine out a purpleish light?

cool thanks but i get them for $175 local store. hey does our cars allow the plug and play HIDs? or do you have to do your own fuse thingy stuff for it.

You can plug and play some hid kits, if they have digital ballasts.
The only issue you will have is that the ballasts will not get enough power and therefore both bulbs will not always turn on on the first try.
Take it from my personal experience and get a wiring relay because it is a pain without one.
As for the purple you see in your light, it will only be visible when you are not looking directly into the beam.
Use the bulbs that came with the lights because your lights were specifically made for that size of bulb. You can modify your wiring to fit a different bulb but thats not always a good idea.
Hope this helps

9005 and 9006 have the same connecting patterns. i still just think the person who put those 9005s on the low beam made a mistake. but like i said i will try with both.

I have what looks like the same housings in black. Mine came with 9005's for both high and low beam.
What I really want to do is separate the housings so I can paint the black backs body color (white, in my case). Don't know if I can get them apart without breaking them, but I'll try. Aside from some springs clips, they appear to have a sticky round gasket in a groove that holds the cover and seals it. Can't tell for sure if there are any interlocking tabs or anything, but I don't see any evidence of any glue either. Guess I'll find out.

I have the same projectors you do except in black and both are 9005. If you search, you'll see quite a few references to that fact. An HID kit is your best option as I tried stock, Luminics Ultra Whites and the bulbs that came with the projectors and none of em were close to the output of my HID system even with it being 6000k.

so if i get a HID kit i should get the 9006 kit or 9005 kit.

Just a follow-up on my efforts to get the housings apart (so I can paint the black bezels): I managed to do it by first removing the (4) spring clips and then using a hair dryer to soften the nasty sealer while simultaneously prying the lens cover away from the back. (Be careful and realize you're dealing with plastic.) The sealer is a horrible grey plastic putty like stuff, very sticky, but it does respond to heat/cold and laquer thinner (use at your own risk). The housing is a three-piece sandwich affair consisting of a clear lens cover, chrome back and either a black or chrome bezel in between, depending on the model you bought. Once they're apart, painting the black bezels is easy. The hard part will be getting enough of the sealer off so the parts will fit together again. (The jury is still out on whether it's better to heat or chill the old sealer as it appears to be a PITA in either case.) If I can accomplish this during my current lifetime, I'll use clear or black RTV to hold it together again.
Get some pictures of your progress
Id love to see how it unfolds.
I have the black housing ones as well, but my cars black so there is no need to paint.
I do however have issues with condensation on the inside so id like to reseal the headlights.

i was not able to transfer over my silverstar blubs. i had to use the bulbs it came with which i thought sucked. so i'll get some night shots later tonight.
