This coming year (09) I have a plan to install a new 00-02 bumper on my Cavy, the problem I have is that my car is a 97. I already have the one piece headlights for the 95-99 so I don't want to loose them. A buddy of mine has graciously donated a bumper off another 97 to cut the headlight areas out to mold into the 00-02. I'm just not sure what can I use to attach the two. Any ideas would be a great help. Thanks!!
plastic/urethane fusor. look up alias' 00-02 import fighter front bumper build his did this but the other way around
Fusor 147 or 3m panel bond 8115.
you'll also need the applicator gun which runs around $75-100.

I have worked with "Bondo" and fiberglass, but this is the first time I have attempted this... Where can I purchase the fusor at? I work at Advance Auto, and we don't even come close.

you should be able to order it from your work.. check the keystone catalog.
there is someone on here who put the type j on the 95-99 front end and made little metal panels for under the lights.looked good and easy fix.i can't remembver who it was but maybe someone here can chime in
first off ya need to know what type of plastic it is, that is always the first thing to do when customizing or repairing plastic
if my memory serves me correct it should be TPE/TPO which are offlien thermo-set plastics which means it needs a adheshion promoter for any type of repair material to work, the only plastic that does not need a adheshion promoter is polyuarthene
when you do it make sure both sides of the plastic have been lightly grinded , and i always bevel the edge when working with plastic, if ya dont have plastic cleaner you can use a amonia free glass cleaner its the same thing, i would plastic weld both sides, then apply your promoter then the repair material, i would also use a plastic repair mesh behind the bumper for extra support
its not just slapping together plastic for any plastic work to last it has to be done correctly not slapped on

I know what the bumpers are, they are both stock factory Z bumpers, I have been told they are urethane, and unfortunately that is the only material I haven't worked with. And I have been warned they not just any material will hold the two together. That and I want to make sure it still looks like a bumper when I'm done and not swiss cheese.

okay, could someone please tell me what they are made of. I just may have to rethink this.
I'm the one that did the j-body front bumper on a 98 cav. I just built metal peices under the headlights to fill the gap and I can post pics tonight. I'm at work now..... Molding to stock bumpers will be a pain and I have yet to see anyone do it and make it look good. Not trying to discourage you man, but filler pieces would be easier and can look just as good.
They're actually a plastic and not a urethane.

again, humm. I do plan on using an old bumper off of a 98 and a 00-02 oe bumper. So they would be made of the same material, right? Thanks to all for your help!! I just got my WW front W-lip in today for the 00-02 bumper, so I guess this venture will happen.
what do you think polyurathene is?? its plastic, like i said above, look inside the bumper to find the iso code, you will see this TPO OR TPE OR TEO the bumpers are not polyurathene!!!!!, nor ABS!!!! this is not a saturn people
GM stopped using polyurathene bumpers in the mid to early 90`s, and went with TPO,TPE,TEO, and now gm is using PP plastics, which like i stated above are all plastic!!!!, what do you think the bumper on my alero is made from???? TPO!!!!!!!!!, and you see i frenched a license plate pocket in a TPO bumper, once again these plastics are a thermo-set offlien type of plastic which require a adheshion promoter for any repair material to stick to them,
it can be done just look at my bumper, but you need the experience with plastic , what you want to do does not seem that hard, but ya need the experience to attempt this type of work
