protecting front lip in winter?
Tuesday, January 20, 2009 10:37 AM
Hey, just wondering if any one knows what i could put on my lip to protect in durning the winter from getting chipped from salt and road debris and @!#$?????
i just had it put on last spring and it has quite a few chips of paint out of it etc.... and i want to protect it...
They use salt up here on the roads and that really does a number on the front end...
Can i wax it and leave the wax on it for the winter, or will it be too hard to remove; or is there a plastic film i can buy and place over the lip; i seen some of you tarvelling to car shows with a blue film on the front of your cars....
Any help would be great
Thanks

Thats blue painters tape, and I wouldnt leave that on all winter.....not to mention it probably wouldnt hold that long.

Unwaxing would also be a bitch. I would look into the clear adhesive films made for protecting the hood available at local parts stores......its like a car bra, only a clear sticker.

That would be the best season long protection available that I know of.

i believe dupli color makes a protective paint. Comes in a rattle can. it sprays on flat black and can be washed off with soapy water pretty cool stuff. its used for the front bumper and front of hood to help prevent and protect against small pebbles sand what not flying around in the air. ill see if i cant find it and post a link to it.

Cool thanks guys........
Hummm i wonder if shrink wrap(its like a rool of saran wrap for wrapping skids and crates) would work, its a clear wrap, just like what you would wrap your sandwich in,lol......
I dont want to remove the lip as its held on with two way tape and screws of course...... i dont want to mess with buying more two way tape etc....
Ummmm i wonder if i wax it once a week and keep removing it, or try the shrink wrap; or just use grocery bags,lol......
Thanks fellows, any more ideas throw them at me, thanks

just get a buildable wax, and get a few layers built up on it. then be done with it

If it's that bad in your area in the winter i would suggest just taking it off. $5 for more 3m adhesive tape is not as much as it's gonna cost to repair or get a new lip when it gets damaged. The duplicor stuff works real good to, i seen a different brand of it before that was clear when sprayed on, but can't recall the name of it.

Right on fellows, this spray on protectting paint stuff, it just washes off with soap and water? i would like to use something like that, but i would be veery scraed to spray my lip and have the product ruin my lip or ruin the paint....

Than you can sue duplicolor for a new painted lip if you'd like. It says it WILL NOT ruin your paint.

I LIKE the junk yard bumper idea,lol..... would be fun running into snow banks.........
I waxed it last night and wrapped black shrink wrap around it, looks bad and ugly, but may do the trick, and i have lots of wrap....
