You could try rubbing compound or polishing compound. A real fine grit rubbing compound would probably work best just don't use a lot of it, and don't rub it on too hard or leave it on for very long.

You'll prolly have to buff it. But if you haven't buffed anything before I would take it to a shop.
You may be able to get them out yourself using a towel and some polishing compound (and possibly rubbing compound, depends how deep the scratches are) but it'll prolly be just about the same cost to go to a shop, depending on the shop.

Buff it with polishing compound carefully. Turtle wax polishing compound works well and is cheap. Then buff with a wax after polishing.
Do both by hand so as not to go too deep into the clear. You probably only scratched the clear so you basically have to blend those
scratches out by polishing down past the depth of the scratches. Also wipe the polish away once in a while as you work to see the progress.
If you are afraid you'll do more damage try underneath the car in a inconspicuous part of painted area or test it on some other painted surface
to get the hang of it. You can do more damage if you go too deep into the clear so be careful. Worst case is bring it to a full service detail shop
and they shouldn't charge too much for just that little spot. When I worked in a shop years ago they would charge like $20 to buff a scratch out
like when somebody keys a car and doesn't remove the paint but only damages the clear.

Next time you are looking to remove the tar use the Turtle Wax barand bug and tar remover. So far it is the absolute best and easyest product I have found for removing tar.

Fyi, They have "china/ scratch resistant" scrubbing pads too, I use them and never scratched my car.

And as stated above try a rubbing compound. Just don't get carried away with it.

For future reference, many brands such as "Turtle Wax", "Gum Out" etc.....offer very good "Bug, Tar & Grease" remover that work wonders and are paint and clearcoat SAFE. You don't wipe your @$$ with sandpaper, you be very gentle. Treat it like a baby's butt.

Why would you use scotch bright on you paint???????? thats common sense bro!

The asnswer is polishing compound. NOT rubbing compound. takes out any light to medium scratches and its cheap.

NOT RUBBING COMPOUND.

get this from meguiars

#84 cut and polish compound from the professional line...

hit the spots about 6 or 7 times with a decent bit of muscle.

next time...

rubbing alcohol
gasoline
kerosene
any of the other abovementioned products

they all are 10 thousand times better than a scotchbrite pad.

Yeah but also, wash your car throughly if you use those right away and wax it.

I personally would not use those.
