Convertible Rear Window

Well thanks to my lack of a garage and a copious amount of Michigan snow, my rear defroster window has broken loose of it's home. And then after it was taped in, it broke loose again and fell onto the highway where it perished.

My question is, has anyone successfully replaced one of these windows with something less than oem? The car will not see another winter, except if it looks through the windows of my garage, so the defroster is not needed.

Any wisdom will be greeeeeeeeatly appreciated!

There's a thin line to be crossed, when the upgrades to your vehicle increase your chance to get tickets by an amount exponential enough to stop worrying and build the fastest, loudest car you can.

I have not replaced the rear window (or "backlight", as it's referred to in the manual), but there are many available on eBay (and perhaps they have good instructions). Navigate over to the third gen forum and look at the sticky for the 95+ convertible service manual (at the top) and see if the procedure is something you can handle. I've left most top work to professionals in the past.

I would just get oem parts. dont half-ass it, btw, in your future list for the sunfire, the 3800 s/c on a 2.4 would be one of a kind, but do you know the 2.4 and the 3800 are completely different engines?? not to be an ass, but I noticed it.

Lol, it will be one hell of a project to slap that s/c on a ld9, that's for sure :p

I have one sitting in my barn, and i'm picking up a ld9 out of a z24 with about 60k on it this weekend to start building. We'll see where it goes from there i guess
