Has anyone thought of this?
Saturday, February 28, 2009 9:32 AM
I have been searching for coupe mirrors from a Toyo for quite some time and have yet to find mirrors for a coupe that are in good condtion. I have come across some that were either nixed up or for a sedan but if I'm gonna spend what most are asking I prefer them to be what I want which is coupe in decent condition with no major nix.

In my searching it is apparent that a majoity of the Toyo Cavs are in New Zealand so I took the liberty of tracking down a few bone yards in New Zealand and shooting some inquiries to them to see if they could provide assistance. I have sent about 10 emails so I figure someone is gonna have something or at least reply back and lead me in the right direction.

I know there are a few people here searching for some parts and just wonder if anyone has attempted this in the past. If so and it was unsuccessful then I just wasted my time in doing this and your time in reading this. If not, I'll update this if I get a word back from anyone and if they are helpful I'll post their info here for any inquires any JBO members may have.

Wish me luck.

On a side note I forwarded the part numbers for the mirrors to my buddy at the GM garage to see what kind of deal he can get on the mirrors. GMPartsDirect has mirrors for $400+ ea, the switch for $40 and the wiring harness for $700 so hopefully he can get something better than 2K all in. For that price (less shipping) I could get a RHD Cavy from New Zealand.

Keep an eye on eBay, I picked up coupe mirrors for around $2xx somethign shipped everything included. Sure you know the sedan mirrors can be made to work on a coupe, believe it involves drilling out spots on the door.

You would take ranks next to the guy with the Cavalier tattoo if you spent 2k on some @!#$ mirrors that fold in.

I contacted a place in New Zealand a couple years back about Toyota Cavalier Parts. They told me the only business they did to the US was to Street-line.net

UPDATE:

Well, it actually worked! Late Sunday night I was contacted by a parts warehouse in New Zealand who was able to provide black toyo coupe mirrors, the wire harness, the switch and the relays.

The initial quote was 281.00 for all the parts plus 140.00 for shipping. I was shocked at the shipping price and after further communication came to the understanding the quotes were given in New Zealand dollars not US.

After the US to NZ exchange rate the final cost for two mint, black toyo coupe mirrors, the wire harness, the switch and relays was $208.46 with 6-10 day shipping! Pretty good deal if you ask me considering, from my understanding, most people that find em on Ebay dont usually get the harness and/or relay.

If anyone is interested in the contact info shoot me a PM and I can forward the info along. I imagine this would only be beneficial for smaller items - mirrors, tails, steering wheel etc - since shipping on something like a fender would probably be pretty rediculous.

Just a heads up!

I just got off the phone with them and since they are 16 hrs ahead of us and it is 4PM their time theyll be sent out today which is actually already Wednesday afternoon their time.

Awesome to work with, excellent communication and even bumped 20.00 NZ off the price to compensate for the high shipping which dropped it to 198.52 US shipped!

Turns out they are a Toyota Warehouse specializing in Toyo parts. They were the only email I received back out of the 10 inquiries I sent.
