Headlight Switch

anyone have a quick how-to on replacing the headlight switch?

my headlights quit working the other day and i need to get them fixed pronto.

just so you know here is a little background on the problem

i have to pull my switch back toward me and hold it for the lights to come on. pull back a little and the lows come on
pull back little more and the highs come on but if i let the switch flip to highs i lose the lights again. i can hear the DRL
relay switch on/off ( and if i hold the headlights on and pull the relay the left light goes out and the others stay on until i let off the switch) and i
can also hear the relay under the hood switch on/off

any help will be much appreciated.

Unscrew the 2 or 3 hex-head screws under the steering column cover. Then you'll have to try to squeeze the top half of the cover to pop the tabs inside loose. Once you've removed the cover, remove the 2 torx/hex screws retaining the switch. I think you can figure it out from there.

o ok awesome. i was really expecting it to much harder than that. is it diff for a 97? when i bought my Z it was either the 99 Z or a base model 97. the headlights on the 97 didnt work and he said he had to remove the entire steering cloumn to fix it. aside from the other obvious reasons that partly why i bought the Z

97 is the exact same, its easy if you have the hex style screw drivers. take it apart as d luke said and then plug in your new one.

i had the exact same problem with mine... the low beam would work intermittantly when i turned the switch on, high beam always worked. Then it developed into neither working at all unless i played with the lever. Replaced the switch/stalk and, voila, back in business. I would suggest you disconnect the positive battery terminal before doing this as you are messing around with the clock spring contacts on the steering wheel, I didnt and my airbag deployed right in my face! Just kidding... but the potential is probably there. Oh, the part cost me 50 bucks at the junkyard (canadian, so thats like 5 bucks american, right?)

I've had to do this a couple times and both times a new switch worked fine. Annoying, but not difficult.
