i have a sharpe cobalt now, it served me well, but time to upgrade....

i have about $500 to spend... can use my cobalt for primer, but need a good clear/base gun...

what is the best bang for the buck?

was looking at the devilbiss gti... or the sharpe razor or titanium...

or a lower model sata or iwata...

I love sata jets. I use my sata jet 2000 for everything except primer and other thick materials.

is the 2000 good enough? i always fear buying a cheap model of a good brand.... almost rather have a good model of a not so great brand... dont know why...

but what does a 2000 run? and what does it give up compared to the 3000 and 4000?

I personally love Sata... sorry but nothing compares. Granted it wont make you a professional painter just by having the gun, but I've used Devilbliss's finishline and their GTI and still doesnt compare to the Sata. You won't find a 2000 to easily as they no longer make them. At work I have a 2000 1.4 for primer, a 2000 1.4 for base, then I use my 3000 1.3 for clear.

Look on ebay, you can get new Sata 3000 for around $400 off ebay still new.

btw they don't make a 4000(yet anyway)

ok i found a source for satajet 2000's... but what model do i want? is the digital 2 worth the addedd money? or just go with the standard?

would a 1.3 mm tip be best for high solid clears and standard basecoats (no metalics or anything fancy)

arent SATA tips and nozzles real $$$$... so for now just want to get one that will cover most of my needs.

ok nevermind... turns out they dont have the 2000's he was just giving me the replacement of the 2000, which is the 3000 i guess.

is the 3000 as good as the 2000? his prices arent too bad... $537.43 for the 133017 and $624.95 for the 133199

my buddy gets a discount too... so be cheaper yet.

but is this what i want?

satajet 3000? 1.3 tip? (or would 1.4 be more universal) is digital worth it for say $50 more? or just go standard?

looks like my choices are model 133017 for 1.3 std... or 133181 for digital 1.3. or they make 1.4's of both...

i am at the mercy of you pro's... tell me what i should go with.

do the digitals still need a regulator at the gun? or can you just turn the compressor regulator down and let the gun do the rest?

I'm a fan of Sata and Iwata guns, but I have had good results with Devilbiss as well. There was another brand a former coworker of mine had that was very good for spraying bases and clear, but I can't remember the name of it.

The digital is nice but its really up to you.

1.3tip should be fine. I use 1.4s for my primer and base and a 1.3 for my clear for better atomization, but my paint instructor back in class was the opposite, so it really just depends on spray technique and just how you set up the gun, whichever should work. Some paint manufacturers actually recommend a tip size as well.

Yes they are, for reason though. Unlike most cheapys you cant just swap out the air cap to change the tip size. Satas air caps and needles are engineered to work together so you have to replace both in order to change the tip size. But this also hints as to why Sata is the top brand.

ok nevermind... turns out they dont have the 2000's he was just giving me the replacement of the 2000, which is the 3000 i guess.

3000 is nicer, cant really say its better then the 2000 because I don't really feel much difference, 3000 is a little more comfortable and is just the upgraded, but there is nothing wrong with either.

my buddy gets a discount too... so be cheaper yet.

Yes the digitals still need a regulator somewhere in the line. It just shows inlet pressure, No adjustment. I use a diaphragm regulator attached to a gauge with a whirlwind filter on my guns right at the gun, Works for me.

ok what does anyone know about the sata 2000 RP (or digital 2)... or the original Sata RP?

I know the RP guns use a higher pressure, and are supposed to give finer atomization, but at the cost of more over spray and more paint loss.

but i hear RP guns leave a great finish.

But how do the older models compare to the new ones? is there anything besides the comfort factor?

what does the RP 3000 have that the 2000 rp does not? and what does the 2000 have that the original RP has?

the sata website is useless for info on older models... you can hardly get a photo...

I have found some cheap used RP originals, and rp 2000's and digital 2 RP's... but should i drop a lil more and get the 3000?
