^^ I used VHT Nightshades on one of my sets of tail lights.

It worked good, just scuff up the surface, and apply light coats until desired tint.

Too dark and light is barely visible so be careful.

Take them off the car to do them and spray them at the same time so you get even tint on both sides.

LIGHTLY is the key or it will run and dry VERY dark...

IMO 2-3 coats max looks really good.

I just did a set of carbon fiber altezzas today to get rid of the cheap look a bit for a buddy of mine.. I just take some black and mix it up in my clear coat, apply a couple coats of clear to the darkness wanted.. then empty that clear out, mix up some fresh clear with no black and apply a couple coats of that on. This way if wet sanding and buffing is needed i'm not removing tinted clear lighting up the tails in one area or something. Plus it looks professional.. well because it is

I used VHT Nightshades, scuffed the tails with 2000 grit, about 3 light coats, then very lightly with 2000 grit again, and 2 coats of clear.

Clear takes practice, and Nightshades acts almost exactly like clear, so you might want to practice a bit on a piece of plastic so you know how it acts, it's much less forgiving than paint.

^^ lol no, my buddy has those cheap carbon fiber altezzas.. and didnt like the painted c/f pattern they have inside them. cheapest solution was me taking them into my work and tinting them.. I mixed black in with some clear coat to tint the outter lens then applied regular clear to protect the blackened clear.. they basically are really dark tinted altezzas now. I'll try and get a pic this weekend.

Thanks, just remember prep is everything. I took my time getting the tails ready. Shaved all the writing and made sure ever inch of it was scuffed.

And my advice for clear coat, 1 light mist, wait 30 seconds, another light mist, wait 30 seconds, then a coat heavy enough to make it look nice and glossy, just not to heavy so it runs. It's always given me great results. Also don't go cheap on clear coat, if your going to rattle can it like I did, spend $12 or 13 on a can.

Seems like Manta works at a body shop, he might have better advice.

since then he has swapped in a turbocharged ecotec and has 02 ls sport bumpers..so no worries there
