FML. Side Molding Removal Issues
Monday, July 20, 2009 9:02 PM
I got all of the pieces off and got to my last piece on the driver side quarter and boom there it is. A paint line. Apparently my car had been painted on the rear quarter and the molding wasnt removed. So now Im left with this. My friends dad said I could wet sand and buff it to level the paint out. But Im a little nervous about this. The paint goes from high to low and the color matches so all I need to do is level it out. Any help or suggestions? I need this fixed.

take it to a shop, and have them wet sand and buff the whole car!

how does the color match? if its close i would leave it till you have some cash, then get it done. one mess up and your repainting the whole side of your car to blend.

maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow....... but some day

dude its easy i've been doing it all week , get 1500 grit and sand it in small circles, clean the surface first though don't want to grind anything in in your water use dawn soap just a little bit to make the paper slide over the surface smoother. good luck!

Yeah, take your time and go for it.

If you mess up, you just have to get it done proffesionally, but if you take your time, you will save lots of money!

use lots of water, and dont sand too hard,

it will take a while, but be patient and it will look just fine

No, you are not screwed if you get through the clear. you can reapply clearcoat, it will just be more expensive... you wont get through the clear that easliy, just lightly wet sand.

So the paint over top of the old is just clear in that section of the quarter. Im trying to wet sand but all its doing is causing that clear to flake a little. I got the ring gone mostly but its still uneven and you can see the differece in the two coats.
