im glad to see its so easy that it`s made out that a monkey can put on a quater
what`s the first thing you do???................remove all the parts, the quater glass, tail lithgs, bumper, re-bar, energry absorber, trunk interior, and the interior
and the back glass
so with all the glass removed, and all other parts removed, then this follows
now if it`s not damaged, there is always seam selaer every where, ya gotta clean off the seam sealer to see the spot welds right??........right
so what i always do is remove the rear tire or in your case remove both tires, and put the car on stands, not floor stands stand that bolt to the wheel studs, it looks like a triangle, why not floor stands, well the car has to be sitting on its own weight and if it`s left jacked up and you make all the gaps all pretty and weld it shut, put the car back down on the ground whats going to happen class???? the gaps will be off your right!!
so then i make it a habit to disconnect the battery, put welding blankets everywhere to protect the car, i dont drill to remove the old quater no need your wasting time, i take my air hammer with a cutting bit on it and make a big ass hole, cutting close to the mating flanges, then i use my cut off wheel using a grinding disc made for grinding welds, and start grinding every single weld down, you will see when you get close to the mating flange on the car that`s when you know to stop
ok class, that big ass hole you made with your air hammer well its about to come in handy, i cut parts of the quater to gain more acsess with either my air hammer with a spot welding blade on it or my panle seperator, oh btw you will also need to use a torch to heat and loosen up the panle bond that is around the outer wheel house by the rocker panle, by the quater extension, by the rear body panle, and by the trunk floor.....oh you forgot about the panle bond didnt you??? it`s ok your learning
so now the quater is off the car, great sucsess!!! but look the inner quater and the wheel house has some damage from removal of the old part, thats ok your going to take you hammer and dolly and make those mating flanges all striaght once again, then what you do is grind all the mating flanges clean of all burs from removing the panle,
then your going to apply a weld through primer on the new clean metal right???..................right!!!
same system goes for the removal of the doner quaters,
now on to dry fitting on the panles, thats right, install the new panle, get a nice gap at the door, use a sheet metal screw to hold in in place of a clamp the install the deck lid , install the tail light, install the rebar, then get a nice gap at the deck lid as well, sheet metal screw where needed, install the bumper, if you like all the gaps, then remove everything you just put on, now all those sheet metal screws you put on to hold the panle in place guess what??? those are the same holes your going to use to reinstall the panle for the last time
now everything is back off, the new panle is on a horse, you have your panle bond ready to go, apply panle bond to the new panle around the wheel house area, at the rocker, at the tail light area, and at the bottom of the quater too, dont forget to use a slow drying panle bond so you have time to work with the panle to get it on and screwed and clamped back on,
well your ready to weld, plug weld where needed, then you grind all the welds down, if the new panle was damaged repair it, then you apply etch prime to the bare metal, then you seam seal where needed, let it dry over nite, presto!!!! your done
not as easy as it seams is it
can i haz bondo
