hey
want to do this to my 97gt to change it from the sunflower to a sunfire, give it a bad ass look. soo ive heard that you can buy weld ons, but couldnt find them online, if anyone knows where could you let me know. also who has done this and how difficult is it?
so far as i know you can NOT buy weld ons, you have to make them.
fairly simple on the metal forming end, very little fab work involved. but if you arent capable, try some body shops in your area.
Or if you purchase a fiberglass hood first, you can glass them in:
seems pretty easy, do you weld on top of the hood or seem it, because it seams like that if you seem it it will hit the headlight
I bought a set off ebay, that I'm currently molding to my hood. They were originally supposed to be held on by the rubber seal where the hood touches the headlights, but I bondod them on. I can put up pics if interested. evil eyes cost me $20, and now he's sellin them for $15, so if interested check out ebay.
I'd like to see how they look installed and molded....

I'd worry about the bondo cracking from the eyelids flexing.

I know bondo's not the best but I had some sitting around and thought I'd try it. Right now I literally working on my car with pennies in my pocket to spare. I'm in the middle of moving from my appartment and finding a house, so.....House first car second I think we can all respect that reasoning.
nice...gonna look pretty good once its all molded...keep up the good work !!!!

i have no issues with that, but if you dont have the money its better to just wait until you do versus spending money on something thats is likely to fail on you and cost you more money down the line. you should use metal and weld it in. using bondo on that piece is just going to crack after a few good hood shuts and getting hot and cold.

thanks for the pics, i've got a few ideas for mine now.
Those headlights look semicrosseyed to me
sndsgood, Yeah I didnt think about that, I was just eager to get working on my hood. If I had a welder and skills I agree I would have rather welded them.
Thesundownfire, yeah the pass side does look a bit funny, but that was before I adjusted them and was driving with them.
Brad, they're not that hard to make, just kinda expensive to buy all the pieces ya need. I'd have built them a little different had I planned them out better.
Alex and Mark, thanks guys for the comments, I'm just here to help however I can expecially if it is from personal experience!

so the lids you bought.. are they metal?
I looked into options for the eyelid thing... the best way was to find someone in need of $$ and but a hood with them! but if you want to fab, its nothing major just make sure you are clear of the headlight, if it touches, it will probobly vibrate and crack and work you do, then you gotta level it out and paint, Not too crazy or expensive for a Do-it-yourselfer. I did it with a friend, and it just took time and patience. Good luck

Dont do bondo...my biggest opinion...if the eyelids you have are not metal, dont do it....but look at it on the up side, now you will have a template for your evil eyes, and hell, im sure if you started making weld read evil eyes then you could sell them like crazy on here....

i just did mine yesterday after work and i used the front portion of a cut up chevy truck hood. the slight downward curve is perfect for the sunfire and i took it from the front edge so i got a nice pre-finished lip with no extra work.... took me about 4 hours to make an srt4 type hood scoop and weld on some evil eyes depends on your skill level and acess to tools
