I recently decided to start Frankensteining my Cavy. I was thinking Evo hood, Z3 fenders,
Cobalt taillights, Civic headlights, etc. First up, I wanted to do a hatchback conversion. I
checked around and the closest hatchback dimension-wise to the Cavy was the 90 240SX.
Then my boy Jordan gave me this idea to make a removable hatch assembly kinda like a
camper shell for a truck. This way I can rock the tuner look and the tuned mini-Blazer K5
look at the same time. Ideas?
hatchback might be kinda kool depending on one's taste, but ewwww to the mini-blazer/cavalier halfbreed idea.
No I dont mean like that. I mean the ability to remove the hatch to have an exposed trunk and backseats. Theres no way in hell im putting K5 parts on my cavy.
i know i meant the appearance,ugly....imho
Well, blucavvy, I took your advice and I'm not doing the removable hatch anymore. Just straight hatchback. I'll post pics when I can, my camera's on the fritz right now.
sounds kool man, interested to see.
I don't understand why everyone wants a hatchback cav. Whats the point of all the work, when its closed its going to look the exact same.
it's just the fact that he's doing something diff, i straight up said earlier in here that i thought it would look like poop, but if he wants to go through with the work, then more power to him.
hatchback would look cool. removing it would not.
and all of this supposed work will be done, but youre going to throw z3s on there? poor choice of supposed mod, IMHO
Doesn't anyone have a working camera? This is the second post where the poster had the same issue. WTF
the removable hatch idea would'a made it look somewhat like an el camino (sp) lol ... :s ... If you wanted a hatchback cav why didnt you just look for an 85-87 cav hatch ? I'll wait til I see the finished product to give final opinion. Because right now its just up to our imaginations which can go several different ways.

I think it'd be sweet to buy a vert then make a removable fiberglass hardtop for it :-)

This!
I've seen a few Miata's around with the Fiberglass hard top kit. It looks great
Can't wait to see progress on the hatch idea, it will certainly be different!
instead of dumping all that money into your current car, you should buy my frankenstein for alot less than it will cost to do it to yours.
I just wanna see the pics!
unleashed. there.
I was thinking about doing this with mine too. I started a thread about 4 months ago. heres a link.

Im still thinking about it. But as I just graduated boot camp. Ill need to wait probably about another 4-6 months before I even get to buy another J.
I personally like the idea. You can use my ideas from my thread if you like. I think that would be the best way to approach it. Along with using the existing mechanisms from a different hatchback. With some strong hinges.
i say if you like it, forget about what others say, nothing wrong with being different lol go for it and i'd like to see pictures of it
Is this thread seriously back?
