'05 Silver Cavy debadge + moulding removal question.
Monday, January 18, 2010 4:43 PM
I have been considering removing the badges and mouldings. I wanted to know if anyone else had a close year and has removed their badge/mouldings recently (6 months or so). If you have pictures or could let me know how yours went (orif this is a poor idea, give it to me straight). I'm not sure if it was garage kept before me, its been a mix from '07.

Well guys. I did it. And it turned out perfect. I'm going to do the mouldings this weekend. Longest part was trying to get the adhesive off. No fade

Before.

After.

If you thought getting that small amount of adhesive off sucked wait till you do the side molding!

But, its totally worth the effort and blisters.

pulling mine off this weekend... im missing the Z24 badge on one side and the big piece on the other is peeling off and rusting out underneath... blah.. was gonna replace them but this seems better... paint looks like crap right now anyways so eh... i can do the body work on it.. then i just gotta find someone to paint it in the spring...

so in my case... that adhesive is coming off with a grinder!! haha... lucky me... i guess...

well... mine came off in about 3 minutes.... lol.. it pulled the paint in about a 10" section where it had started rusting tho, just surface rust at least... its now cleaned up...

oh well... all the clearcoat is gone from my entire car anyways and the paint looks like ass... but now that i notice the rust isnt that bad and only in one spot, im hesitant to use the grinder as planned... and you guys werent kidding... that adhesive is a PITA to remove!! haha...

its freezing outside too... and i seem to have misplaced my heatgun in the move... probably not making this easy on myself... lol...

guess this would serve as a cautionary tale of what you may find under there... if you cant tell, that white stuff isnt adhesive..LOL.. fml

oh well... planned on painting it anyways... guess it'll just look like ass until then... and fyi, i found goo-gone and a steady hand with a razor blade do the trick on the actual adhesive..

razor blade's a little crazy, goo gone and a strong thumb is all it takes.

yeah normally i wouldnt have even thought about it... but look at my paint! lol.. i didnt care... but it actually worked great! not a scratch and done pretty quickly... although i didnt get right into the paint... i left a very thin layer of the adhesive that yeah, my thumb got off... for people in my position that are going to paint anyways, its an option..

im looking around for an old school eraser.. seems like that would work perfectly and be easier on my hands..

take a hair dryer and apply heat to the badge for a few minutes before pealing it off

just use fishing line 20# or 30# test to cut the tape behind the mouldings and badges, and an eraser wheel on a drill you dont have to push hard or spin super faste to get it to done, took me id say 45 min to debadge and remove pinstrip and these really lame cavalier z24 stickers on the doors.

How do you remove the pinstripe?
