hello all, newbie losing my jbody posting virginity
ive had an 03 sunfire 2dr ecotec auto for about a year now, and im loving it to peices... anyhoo ive lately become more interested in tuning, modding, and overall paying it more attention than it usually got every 6 months (or 3 k whichever comes first
) and the first thing im going to do is remove my bumper...
as you all know, the 03 model has the sexy ass end all done in the same color as the rest of the car, unlike previous versions. as i was replacing a blown signal light i started dinking around and took off the spoiler just for shiggles.... damn the ass end looks sexy, especially with the cars natural lines and curves.... only problem is, if i take it off permanently (i put it back on), ill have some sticky pads stuck on the body and six one inch or so holes in the trunk where it was mounted....
question number one.... how do i remove the sticky pads without hurting my baby?
question number two... how would i plug those holes without dinking around with body filler and whatnot? (NO experience in bodywork yet) and it needs to be pretty much rust proof.... i was thinkin some bolts with fat heads to cover the holes (painted) with some grommets and o rings and use a fat disk and a nut to cinch them into the holes...... is that a viable option or do i have other alternatives?
want to get rid of the backwards baseball cap and make my ass sexy..... but i dont want to rust the hell out of my babys butt per se....
any help or (mature) input would be appreciated....
over and out

The holes will have to be welded unless your replace your trunk with a wingless one from a salvage yard or something. 97-05 will work and can be had cheap if you look around. A much better alternative to welding.
Welcome to JBO
welcome to jbo a very nice first mod
a wingless one? hrmm.... i thought all sunfire trunks from 03 on had the spoiler... and to be honest, im not a fan of the trunks previous to 03...
previous to 03 its the exact same trunk.. you just have to transfer your filler panel onto it.
What they said, but you could also do what the Cobalt guys do If you just want it removed and as a temporary fix.
Didn't find it in a quick search... but doesn't matter, cause here is the WRX version:p

Basically just find something to fill the holes temporarily, and if you really want you can paint them close to body color so it still looks alright in the meantime...
(goes and checks trunk and facepalms for my stupidity) gah. i see it now...... so pay my scrapyard a visit then?
i guess i lucked out... cars silver... easy go get paint to blend lol
but in the long run id want it to be smooth.... no bolts, plus i have small micro dents from when the previous owner was a lil ruff closing the trunk, so aybe getting a wingless hood from a scrapyard and repainting it would be a good idea

I am would liked to see your winged hood before you get rid of it.
I had the holes from the spoiler on my
'02 Sunfire GT filled at a body shop quite a few years back and it only cost about $200.00. If you're not familiar with body work, I would just pay to have a body shop do it so it comes out looking good. They should be able to weld the holes and re-paint it for a decent price.
You should be able to find a spoilerless trunk lid at a junk yard. The years they had them are 96 and 97. I'm not sure if they had silver then tho, but a black one wouldn't look too bad until you could have it painted. Its the same lid as yours (as said above), theres just a plastic piece bolted to it to make it look different. The body of your car is exactly the same as the older style, just different bolt ons.

I honestly wouldn't waste my time trying to find a spoiler-less trunk lid. I found one at a junkyard and took it to the body shop for them to paint. I ended up returning it to the junkyard because the guy at the body shop said it had a lot of tiny dents and stuff in it and that it would cost more to fix that one up than to weld the holes on my stock trunk lid. To me it looked fine, but obviously to the professional's eye it was pretty messed up. I would save yourself time (and more than likely money too) and just start going to body shops around you and getting quotes, see what you come up with.
Silver was not a factory color on the '95-'97 spoiler-less models. Please don't drive around with a different colored trunk lid. Either have the holes welded or get one from a junkyard, but don't install it until it's painted.
