So on the way to work in get pulled over by a VA cop. I live in MD..... So im like what the hell is for cuz i was on time and wasn't speeding
So he goes your i pulled you over because your tint is to dark and your tail light covers are illegal( i know i was pushing it for the vht tails).
So i told him its legal MD is 35%, he goes well VA is 50%... and ask me where i was going. I told him work. He goes does your supervidor mind your being late?
I was like i just started this job I dk cuz i never been late. He goes ok then, License and Registration.
He runs my crap and comes back and says i just wanna give you a verbal warning, Do you drive here everyday? and im like yea( like he is going to be on the lookout for me)
at least i didn't get a ticket. But anyway if something like that is legal in one state and not the other am i allowed to drive thru it? Like if the tint laws are different?
Opinions?

you are responsible to be in compliance with the law in any state you drive thru.
If you're going to drive thru VA every day, fix the car asap. I have friends in VA that say VA cops do not play around.
I was always told that you only had to comply with the state laws your car is licensed in.
I had a friend that lived in Florida for a while and moved back here and had mirror tint on his windows, which apparently was legal there, and got pulled over constantly here but they couldn't do anything because it was licensed in Florida. But as soon as he got a MN plate he took it off.
I suppose it depends on the circumstances and the cop you deal with. Say I;m driving from NY to FL for vacation and I get pulled over for tint. Generally they won't ticket you if you are in compliance with your home states laws. However, since he asked if he will be traveling thru there daily, they have all the ability they need to pull you over and ticket you.
I didn't know anyone actually followed tint laws.....
This is the second time, i got pulled in dc and they said i live md and its 35% so im fine. he was cool about it so i was just wondering, i will change my tails tho i know your not supposed to have anything covering them

Basically,
The cops are our of their jurisdiction when you are going state to state.
Fortuneatly, a VA cop can't give a MD cant give a PA cant give a NJ .....etc a state based fine.
One of the few times state laws are in our favor.
Unlike those Fed guys.

Remember....syringes go in the RED waste basket.
I know in class they said that you have to obey state by state laws. ((I'm minoring in Criminal Justice))
For instance, while driving through VA we have to have both a front and rear license plate, but once we get into PA or WV we take off the front plate and drive without one because it's not needed in those states.
But be careful, VA cops are dicks. I got pulled over for my silenced exhaust, it wasn't making any loud noise at all, it just didn't looked stock so he pulled me over. ((this was the second time not the first)) complete BS but VA cops suck.
I'm not going anywhere just yet

cops shouldnt be able to ticket you for anything beyond moving violations or the like. they cant ticket you for, lets say, having a modified or deleted cat/exhaust on a out of state car. but if that exhaust exceeds the noise ordinance levels, they could probably ticket you for that.
i live on the wv/oh border so i see it all the time. oh ppl come over with neon underbodies on their cars, which is illegal here. they cant get a ticket for having them installed whereas i can. they can get a ticket for having them on, though, since that is illegal here.
i.e. basically they cant tell an out of stater to modify their existing car, even if its not within its own state specs, since the cops dont have jurisdiction across state lines and it is unreasonable to expect to physically change a car while passing through.
how about helmet laws?
They fit different states...
driving from one to another you better check the laws.
helmet laws would be akin to seat belt laws since the helmet is a personal accessory, not a part of the vehicle itself.

Your friend ain't kidding....I'll be heading through there early friday morning from CT to NC and i'll haul ass in anystate but VA..speed limit the whole way..got pulled for doing 5 to 10 over , never got a ticket but after 13 times of it, I'd rather not chance it..
OP..fix the tint and the tails...you are in their jurisdiction, and they have the last word on it....

I say @!#$ cops when it comes to cars cause pigs do the same dame things to their cars that we do.
had it been a busy day on the road you were on, and your car didn't stand out to him,he wouldn't have cared about the tint.cops here in tn are real laid back.not many restrictions on what you do to your car where i'm at because we have no inspection and no emmisions.so,as long as your not driving like a idiot they leave you alone.although tonight,i was coming home and a county cop pulled out on the same road as me,we were the only ones on the street,i have a loud exhaust and 10k hid's,so needless to say he got behind me and followed for awhile.that was nearly 2 a.m.,time of day has alot to do with it also.

you know me so well dont you?...
If you violate the state law no matter where your car is form or where you are from you can get a ticket period. Most cops will let you off with a warning or not pull you over at all but they can and they can ticket you. To those who think you can;t get a ticket from another state pull your head outta your ass breaking the law is breaking the law when your in that state you have to abide by their laws.

I've been followed like that too, irony is, the cop pulled into the same Tim Hortons (coffee shop) as me and said thanks for letting him see along that road. I was pissin myself the whole way and told him that. he bought me a coffee out of it, lol.

I have 6k with projectors, and I've had cops get out of my way because it's too bright lol.
It's funny following them and watching them try to move their rear view until they're not blind.
