yup its like those people who put a bra on there car thinking they save the paint... its might save it from rocks but as soon as sand gets under it, the paint it toast..
Moisture gets trapped under the cover! I would always say no to a cover!

covers wont trap moisture if you get a decent one, they are breathable.
Cover only goes on mine over the winter, when it's sitting in the garage.

They still don't breath dust, dirt, sand and most will still trap moisture.
This is true, but then again i had the cover off and car dusted it daily. Now it resides in a storage unit without the cover. In my area we have some nasty fallout that happens over night so it was better than dealing with that.
I can't believe all the disdain for car covers.
First, I use one specifically for the Porsche (outside) since I've only got room in storage for one car which would be the Cavy.
Second, I used a car cover on the Cavy for several years with no issues with paint deteriorating or any of the things that were mentioned.
Matter of fact, it was me keeping the car covered that prevented damage of the paint from the Southern sun, debris, dust, and some moitsture for three summers and winters where I drove the car mostly on the weekends.
Maybe most of you don't know how to remove a cover from the car so that the inside of the cover never sees dust etc but there is a way to do this with little to no problems if done right.
And my biggest beef is that YOU DON'T KEEP A COVER ON THE CAR FOR WEEKS AND WEEKS AND WEEKS.
That's just plain stupid.
And I guess the last thing is spend the money on a good cover that will hold up over the years and to wash it if necessary to keep it clean and remove any dust or anything that may cause damage to the paint over time.
I've had excellent experiences with good quality car covers over the years and am here to say that they do work.
Oh and last, always make sure that you cover the car clean, not dirty. That's crucial for not only the car but for the cover too.
And to the OP, yes, do cover the car even after you've done all the detailing of the car. This is exactly how I do it with the Porsche and never an issue.

Mike, the Porsche is a future project car so even though I'm not super worried about it being outside (it's driven all the time and meant to be driven, that's why I bought it), I still want to take care of it like I did the Cavalier when I first got it. Plus I don't want the paint and all ruined further until I can actually start the restoration process down the road.
It worked for the Cavy for those few years that I covered the car so I figure it'll be good for the 944 too.
The Cavy is my build car so should stay in the dry, out of the rain, and never driven in the rain when possible.
Everything is new on the car and it's immaculate, looking like new in many areas.
So like most people with new cars, I'm wanting to keep the Cavy this way since it's all my years of hard work in the car.
Even the daily driver is kept up with maintenance and keeping it clean so it'll last.
It's my money making car so that only makes sense.

My dads been covering his 71 for 10 years now... guess thats a bad idea and why it still looks in mind condition. been covering the 2010 since july 1st of last year... only comes off when he drives them. but at the same time. he has over $1000 in car covers...

Mike, thanks, and I plan to.
I've already got new Sachs HD front struts, Bilstein HD rear shock, and S2 front and rear sway bars which all components are rated for the much more powerful turbo model for my 944.
So I've already started with getting things going for the Porsche.
And the car cover I got for the 944 wasn't cheap either. I've never seen a car cover completely bead off water like this cover and the car stays very clean under all that weather with no issues.
Like BuiltNBoosted, I'm a firm believer in car covers if you spend the money on a product that's going to protect the car.

i agree when you leave one on for long periods of time, i can see dust build up from blowing under the car and chaffing the paint.
